REENFORCED SHIRT Filed March 10 1923 Patented Apr, 1, lg d i i r SITAY LEE, OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.
BEEN? ORCED SmR-T.
Application filed Karen 10, 1923.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SITAY Lnn, a citizen of the United States. residing at South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Beeniorced Shirts, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to reeniorced shirts, and has for its object to provide reinforcing m on the shirt whereby a plurality of layers of material will be disposed beneath the portion of'a collar which engages the shirt, thereby preventing rapid wearing of the shirt incident to the rubbing of the collar thereon, and at the same time providing padding over the collar bone of the wearer for preventing soreness above the collar bones.
A further object is to provide the upper portion of the bosom of the shirt with transversely disposed plaits extending from the shoulder seam to a point below where the collar flaps engage the shirt, the plaits extending inwardly to the shirt band, and by providing plaits a plurality of layers of material are formed, which layers will move slightly with the movement of the collar and consequently will not rapidly wear.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing a Figure 1 is a perspective view of the upper portion of a shirt, showing the reinforcing means applied thereto, and showing a collar carried by the collar band.
Figure 2 is a detail perspective view of the upper portion of the shirt, showing the collar removed.
Figure 3 is a detail sectional view through the plaits taken on line 33 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a shirt, and 2 the collar band thereof. It has been found that the bosom all Serial No. 624,115.
of'the shirt wears rapidly incident to the lower edge 3 of the collar 4; rubbing thereon, especially above the collar bones of the wearer. It has also been found that where the shirt is simply reenforced by sewing a piece or" material to the inside thereof or to the outside that the wear incident to the friction is as great as if said reinforcing were not provided. To obviate this difficulty and to provide reinforcing, which will move slightly with the movement of the edge 8 of the collar, a plurality of transversely disposed plaits 5 are provided, which plaits extend from the shoulder seams 6 oi the shirt to a point below the flaps 7 of the collar on the bosom of the shirt. The plaits 5 extend inwardly from adjacent the shoulders 8 of the shirt to the collar band 2 and by being transversely and horizontally disposed the portions 2 of the plaits' 2 move slightly with the collar 3 and consequently the friction is reduced to a minimum, and is distributed over a plurality of layers of material as clearly shown in Figure 3, thereby preventing rapid wearing of the plaits, and consequently materially prolonging the life of the shirt.
From the above it will be seen that the plaits do not detract from the appearance of the shirt and that by providing plaits a plurality of layers of material is provided for protecting the shirt adjacent the collar bones, which layers of material may move incident to and with the movement of the collar 4.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 1. The combination with a shirt bosom, a collar carried by said shirt, of reinforcing means for protecting the bosom below the collar, said means comprising transversely disposed pla-its in the bosom under the edge of the collar.
2. The combination with a shirt, a collar band carried by said shirt, shoulder seams carried by the shirt a collar carried by said band, or" means for preventing the collar from wearing through the material of the shirt, said means comprising transversely disposed plaits carried by the shirt and extending to the collar band beneath edge of the collar forwardly of the shoulder seams. 3. The combination With a shirt, a collar band carried by said shirt, a collar carried 5 by said band, of reinforcing means for preventing the collar from Wearing through the material of the shirt, said means comprising transversely disposed plaits carried by the shirt and extending to the collar band beneath' the collar, said plaits extending from the shoulder seams to a point below the front edge of the collar.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
SITAY LEE.
