UNITARY THIN FLAT HOLDER FOR GARMENT STRAPS Filed Nov. 12, 1948 INVENTOR. ALICE L. B. POWERS I4 770 R/VEXS Patented Nov. 7, 1956 UNITARY THIN FLAT HOLDER FOR GARMENT STRAPS Alice L. B. Powers, Larchmont, N. Y.
Application November 12, 1948, Serial No. 59,643
3 Claims.
The present invention relates to garment strap holders and particularly to a device adapted to hold the commonly utilized straps present on ladies undergarments in position where they will not show, for example, by positioning them relatively to the shoulders and neckline of a dress, blouse or suit. More particularly still, the invention comprehends device which may be permanently or semi-permanently attached to the dress, blouse, suit or the like and into which the straps of the undergarments as, for example, slips, brassieres, etc. may readily be inserted.
It is an object of the invention to provide a holder for the straps commonly present on ladies undergarments to assure that they are properly positioned with respect to the overlying garments.
It is another object of the invention to provide such a device which is so shaped as to cause it to normally lie flat against the garment to which it is attached thereby permitting the cleaning, washing or ironing of the garment without interference by the strap holder of my invention.
It is another object of the invention to provide such a device which is extremely simple in construction and, consequently, cheaply manufactured.
Other objects and features of the invention will be apparent when the following description is taken in connection with the annexed drawings in which Figure l is a perspective view of the garment holder of my invention showing the mode in which the straps may be passed therethrough to be held in position;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary cross-sectional view illustrating the garment strap holder of my invention in fastened position on a garment and holding a garment strap;
Figure 3 is a plan view of the garment strap holder of Figures 1 and 2 illustrating the details of its construction; and
Figure 4 is a view illustrating a modified form of my invention together with the mode of attaching it to a garment. 1
Referring now to the drawings, the garment strap holder of my invention is shown in Figure 1 with straps of the garments in position therein. The garment holder comprises a generally triangular C-shaped body portion between the ends of which there is the usual gap ll through which the garment straps, such as [2 and I3 may be readily passed.
The body portion 10 is provided with extensions l4 in each of which a hole I 5 is provided to form a sewing 100p, these holes lying forwardly of the 2 rear edge of the member H], as seen in Figure 1, to provide bearing for stitches so that when the. garment strap holder It is applied to a garment it will lie fiat and will not tend to swing about as would be the case if the holes were close to the rear edge of the member.
The arrangement when the garment strap holder has been fastened to a garment, as by sewing, is indicated in Figure 2. In this figure, It represents the garment, the strap holder l0 being fastened to the seam ll of the garment, I6 by means of the stitches I8. In Figure 2 a single garment strap such as I3 is shown passing through the open central portion of the C-shaped member I0.
In Figure 3 there is shown an enlarged view of the garment strap holder of Figure 1. This enlarged view illustrates particularly the mode in which the apertures [E are formed although, of course, any suitable mode of so forming these apertures may be employed. In this instance the portions l4 after being stamped from a sheet of metal are bent inwardly against the downwardly extending portions (Figure 3) of the generally 0- shaped body It! to close up the aperture or slot between the members i l and the body It! and thus leave the two holes l5.
In Figure 4 I have shown a modification of my invention in position on a garment such as is indicated at [9. This modified form of my invention is bent from a piece of wire and comprises again a generally C-shaped body portion 20 having the usual gap 2| at its forward or lower edge, as seen in Figure 4. Two loops 24 are formed in the wire intermediate the rearward or upper edge, as seen in Figure 4, and the inwardly extending arms 25. These loops form apertures 26 similar to the apertures iii of Figure 3 and the device is fastened through the garment by stitching 21 which passes through the loops and into the garment or preferably the garment lining or seam.
It will be seen that in both forms of my invention the apertures through which the fastening means pass are located intermediate the rearward portion of the member 'i ll or 26, as the case may be, and the forwardly extending arms thereof and that, consequently, the garment strap holder will lie flat against the garment and will not tend to get' out of place or to pivot about the stitching or other fastening means. Additionally, this feature of the garment strap holder lying flat against the garment to which it is fastened makes it possible to wash or clean the dress without danger of damage being done by the garment strap holder and likewise makes it entirely possible to press the garment.
While I have described preferred embodiments of my invention, it will be understood that many other modifications may be made without departure from the inventive concept described by me. Therefore, I wish to be limited not by the foregoing description which was given solely for purposes of illustration but, on the contrary, limited only by the claims granted me.
What is claimed is:
1. A lingerie strap holder comprising, a unitary body member forming a substantially triangular C, the angles of said body member being rounded,
one side of said body member being substantially bisected to form an opening therein, and a sewing loop formed on each of the other two sides of said triangular body member to form bearing for stitching.
2. A device in accordance with claim 1, in which the sewing loops are formed to provide bearing for stitches substantially midway on the said sides of the body member. I
3. A lingerie strap holder comprising, a unitary body member forming a substantially triangular c, the angles of said body member being rounded, one side of said body member as the base being substantially bisected to form an opening therein, and a sewing loop formed on each of the other two sides below the apex of said triangular body member to form bearing for stitching.
