HANGER Filed Nov. 22, 1947 MN V N TOR.
Patented Oct. 25, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HANGER Robert P. Nicol, Waterbury, Conn.
Application November 22, 1947, Serial No. 787,563
2 Claims.
The objects of the aforementioned invention are, rst, to securely attach the also readily detachable fastener of a clothesline device for a garment hanger to a clothesline, and insert a garment hanger hook, (which also could have been inserted before attachment to the clothesline), through an eyed shaft of the device, thus securing the hook therein and minimizing the possibility of expulsion of the garment hanger with garment placed thereon, from its said suspended position, by pressure of Wind acting on the garment; second, as in the first object, and With garment hanger and garment thereon subject to a free and capricious rotary motion allowed by the free rotation of the said eyed shaft having a head mounted on a horizontally positioned member of the device. Mentioned shaft is actuated by wind pressure acting on garment placed on garment hanger, thus facilitating uniform drying or airing of garment.
One form of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device With a portion broken to display the placement of parts.
Figure 2 is a detached Vertical View of the eyed shaft with circular head.
In relation to its upright position, a round shaft I is provided with an eye, sloping therethrough, to secure the hook on a garment hanger when entered through the upper eye end; the upper wall portion of the lower eye end acting as a brake on the end portion of the hook, preventing extreme oscillation which would be conducive to expulsion. A circular head 3 is formed on an end portion of the round shaft I. (See Figure 2.)
A shape to be combined With the round shaft l with circular head 3 is made entirely of strip metal or other suitable material. In the form illustrated, a portion of a strip of metal forms a horizontal plane 4, and a rectangular washer 5 is fixed thereon serving as a reinforcement, and simultaneously lengthening the utility period of the device. A short, centered tongue 8 is formed on one end of the metal strip. The horizontal plane 4 is intermediate to a nearly Vertical arm 6 and an inclined brace I, both bent therefrom. Before completion of the shape, the shank of the round shaft is inserted in a perpendicularly descendent position through an opening provided in, and with the under portion of the circular head 3 of the round shaft resting on, the base formed by the horizontal plane 4 with rectangular washer 5 fixed thereon.
After assemblage, the inclined brace 1 is connected to the nearly Vertical arm 6 by the pre- Viously mentioned short, centered tongue 8, which is brought through a slot provided in the nearly Vertical arm 6, and bent downwardly in a fiush position thereto; the whole forming a triangle. (The convergence of the nearly Vertical arm 6 and inclined brace `l prevents displacement of the round shaft l with circular head 3.) The nearly Vertical arm 6 extends above the formed triangle and is bent upon itself forming a lip hook fastener 9 for attaching to a clothesline. The lip hook fastener 9 is formed in the same direction as the horizontal plane 4 in alinement with the circular head 3 of the round shaft I.
I claim:
1. A clothesline device for a garment hanger comprising, in combination, a base portion provided with an opening therethrough, a second portion bent upwardly from the said base portion, an upper portion arced from the said'second portion and bent downwardly forming a lip hook fastener, an eyed shaft having a head rotatably mounted on said base portion with the shank of said eyed shaft descending perpendicularly fro the said base portion.
2. A clothesline device for a garment hanger comprising, in combination, a base portion provided with an opening therethrough, a second portion bent upwardly from the said base portion, an upper portion arced from the said second portion and bent downwardly forming a lip hook fastener, a slopingly eyed shaft having a head rotatably mounted on said base portion, the shank of said slopingly eyed shaft descending perpendicularly from the said base portion.
