Description

Registered Oct. 12, 1954 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in trouser hangers and more particularly to a novel trouser hanger adapted to hang a pair of trousers from the cuffs thereof.
The invention has for one of its objects to provide a device of the type provided with members which will engage upwardly and outwardly within the cuifs of a pair of trousers in such a manner that they will be retained in perfect position as pressed to preserve a wrinkle-free appearance.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the type with cuff-supporting and engaging elements so formed as to insure proper retention of the garment in proper form.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1'is a front view in elevation partially cut away of a trouser hanger and a trouser cuff engaged thereon.
Fig. 2 is an end view of the device showing the trouser cufis partly in section and partly in elevation.
Fig. 3 is a plan view partially broken away of the hanger.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary plan view in horizontal section of one of the tongue detents and its related hanger element.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral l refers to the device generally, having a body portion ll comprised of a plate element bent to form an inverted U of rectangular conformation in cross-section. The top segment thereof, I2, is of elongated rectangular form and has the dual apertures l3 and [4 to accommodate the anchoring portion l5 at the base of the shank [6 of the hook l1.
Each side wall portion l8 of the body portion H has a pair of tongues l9 and 20 struck out therefrom and bent to be spaced exteriorly from each side wall portion l8, each tongue l9 and 20 having a slightly inturned outer edge 2| to act as a detent for a pivoted rod member 22. Each pivoted rod member 22 is journalled at its lower end in an aperture 23 in the side wall portions l8. Each pivoted rod member has an enlarged loop at its free end 24 characterized by a lower segment 25 and an outer segment 28 disposed relatively substantially on a right angle.
In use, a pair of trousers to be hung up is inverted to bring the cuffs upwardly and the hanger I0 is utilized in a position between the cuffs by inserting each pair of eyes 24 within a cuff on the inside of the related pant leg. The rod members 22 will move outwardly until restrained by the detent lips 21 of the tongues l9 and 20, and the outer portions 26 of the eyes 24 will lodge vertically and snugly within the vertical edges of the cuffs to distend the same and maintain the trousers in a wrinkle free position.
It will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention, within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
1. In a trouser hanger, a body portion formed of a plate bent to form a rectangular inverted U in cross-section, a plurality of rods journalled on horizontal axes in said body portion and movable in parallel planes exteriorly of said body portion and extending upwardly therefrom, a plurality of tongues struck out from the sides of said body portion, and lips on said tongues for limiting the outward movement of said rods.
2. In a trouser hanger, a body portion formed of a plate bent to form a rectangular inverted U in cross-section, a plurality of rods journalled on horizontal axes in said body portion and movable in parallel planes exteriorly of said body portion and extending upwardly therefrom, a plurality of tongues struck out from said body portion, lips on said tongues for limiting the outward movement of said rods to an angle of approximately forty-five degrees, and vertical quadrilateral loops formed in the free ends of said rods.
