COMBINATION COAT AND PANTS HANGER Filed Feb. 21, 1958 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Earoldfiigzz sell United States Patent COMBINATION COAT AND PANTS HANGER Harold Hansen, RED. '1, Box 128, Stafiord Springs, Conn.
Filed Feb. 21, 1958, Ser. No. 716,698
1 Claim. (Cl. 223-88) This invention relates to improvements in combination coat and pants hangers, the principal object of the present invention being to provide a pants hanger installed on a coat hanger and adapted to suspend pants by their cuff portions to the end that the pants will retain their usual pressed or creased appearance, after removal from the hanger.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a structure of the character stated which will accommodate pants cults of various sizes.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a pants hanger wherein the pants engaging portions are disposed within the pants cufr', thus eliminating any chance of outside marks or impressions on the pants cuffs due to outside engagement.
A further object is to provide a pants hanger for conventional coat hangers, which can be used for supporting ladies skirts and childrens clothing.
These and various other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the combination hanger.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view looking inwardly from the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a cross-section taken on line 3--3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary enlarged perspective view showing one end of the pants hanger.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral '10 generally refers to a substantially conventional hanger consisting of the substantially V-shaped structure represented and composed of downwardly diverged arms 11, .11 which support the shoulder portions of a coat or like garment. Rising from the medial point of this coat hanger 10 is a hook 12 for supporting the hanger.
Numeral 13 denotes the improved pants hanger which consists of a pair of tubes .14, 15, these tubes telescoping, with the tube 15 preferably riding over the tube 14, or of course the tube 14 may actually be a rod.
2,943,774 Patented July 5, 1960 The tubes 14, 15 at their outer ends are flattened as at 16 and U-shaped to receive the upper compressed medial portion 17 of pants engaging leg assembly .18. Each assembly consists of a pair of depending legs 19, 19, preferably notched as at 20 along their outer edges.
The flattened U-shaped portion 16, embracing the compressed medial portion 17 of the assembly 18 may be spotwelded or otherwise permanently secured to the assembly 18.
Vertically disposed wire spring members 21, 21, coiled at their medial points, as at 22, have their upper ends embedded in the arms 11, 11 of the coat hanger .10, while their lower ends are attached to the tubes 14, 15, as shown in Figure 1.
It can be observed, that the cuffs of a pair of pants can be supported by the structures 18, 18, by simply compressing the pants hanger 13 and pulling the cuffs up over the legs 19 of the assemblies 18, and by releasing the hanger 13, so that the springs 21, 21 will assume the position substantially shown in Figure l, the legs 19 firmly grip the inner sides of the cuffs and support the pants in a vertically suspended position, by the cuffs.
While the foregoing description sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention what is claimed as new is:
A combination coat and pants hanger, said coat hanger comprising a pair of downwardly diverging elongated supporting arms carrying .a medially positioned supporting hook, said pants hanger comprising a pair of vertically disposed parallel wire spring members that are coiled at their medial points and have the upper ends thereof secured to said arms on opposite sides of said supporting hook and within the outer ends of said arms, a pair of telescoping tubes with one tube secured to the lower end of one of said spring members and the other of said tubes secured to the lower end of the other of said spring members, the outer ends of said tubes being flattened, a pair of inverted U-shaped pants engaging elements, each of said elements having a bight portion formed of spaced parallel portions joined by an arcuate portion, and said bight portions are positioned within the flattened ends of said tubes and the outer edges of said elements being notched to firmly grip the pants to retain the same on said elements.
