G. S. GRINER CLOTHES RACK Filed Dec. 14, 1925 WITNESS:
INVENTOR ATTORN EY Fatented Oct. 19 29 GEORGE s. GRINER, onennvnnm'm, OHIO cnornnsinnoii Application filed December a: 921 5. sea-1 Nb. 75121 This invention relates to improvements in clothes racks, the general object of the invention being its application within closets,
wardrobes and other places wherein it is desired to space clothing from a wall to prevent the accumulation of dust and other extraneous matter upon the wall or sides of a closet or wardrobe.
Another object of my invention resides in the specific construction constituting an angular supporting plate having arms secured thereto and providing transversely disposed hooked ends for the support of the hook portions of coat hangers whereby a 5 multiplicity of coat hangers and garments supported thereon may be arranged in transversely disposed relationship within a closet or wardrobe and hence confine such garments to a minimum area within the closet or wardrobe.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of constructiomto be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing 7 Figure 1 is a perspective of my invention. Figures 2 to 5 inclusive are detail views illustrating the manner in which the supporting arms are secured upon the supporting plate. r I
Figure 6 is a fragmentary top plan view of a modified form of my invention.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10' indicates an angular supporting plate having openings 12 provided in the upstandingedge thereof for the insertion of fastening elements, not shown, in order that the said plate 10 may be supported and arranged at an appropriate height or in any desired position within convenient reach of the person so using the invention.
The transverse or horizontal portion 11 of the supporting plate 10 having a plurality of spaced aligned openings 13 provided therein in order that the inner curved ends 14 of supporting arms 15 may be received within these horizontalportion 11' oftlie supporting plate .ep ni ss 3 he y h same. may a i' 5 and easily supported o'r' suspn'ded inYthe manner ass-early illustrated in 1 to' 3" inclusive. The; outer free ends of the supporting armsj15'j defining transversely posed open hooked portio'iis l6' upon which be'suppoite'd andheld against accidental displacement coat hangers, not shown}, one of the hooked en'ds' having; an upwardly" extending portion '17 prpvi ding'a circular upper end 18 to" facilitate the support and arrangem'ent of a hat,- notshown, thereodaccoiding to the desire ofa person so usin the' inve'nltion; 'An-elongated slot 19" arranged ates intermediate point intlie length rtpehbrr- 5 Zontal or transverse portion 11 ,offtlie. up, porting plate 10 defines a downwardly" extending'edg'e 20 upon'the inner side ofs'uch slot 19 behind which maybe engaged ,the intermediate hell or yoke portions 21 defined in thelength of supporting. arm which: has
its" respective ends extending outwardlyin a like manner with respect to thesupport ing arms 22 providing like hooks 23 upon their outer extremitie s. A v l '75 A correspondingly constructed; supporting arm 24; may also be supported upon the' remai ingend offth ejsupporting plate rout defining an additionalor corresponding slot 19 but merely providingopeni-ng's similar to those as'indicated at13through" which the respectiveends o f-the supporting arm24c may j inserted and having its yoked portion en;
gaging the under sideof the transverse or 5 10' and: which in turn-f also defining similar I hooked portions 25upon its outer extremities. As clearly illustratedin Figure 6 of the drawing I have illustrated a modified form of my invention constituting a similarly con- 3 'structed supporting plate 10 having outwardly extending supporting arms 15 ex tending outwardly from the forward edge of the transverse or horizontal portion 11 of the supporting plate 10 and formed integrally "96 therewith while the outer extremities of such supporting arms 15 also providing hooked outer ends 16'.
It will thus'be noted from the foregoing description and accompanying drawing that any of the desired types of supporting arms may be readily and easily supported or arranged upon the supporting plate 10 and owing to the association and construction of the various elements so forming my invention the multiplicity of coat hangers, not shown, arranged upon the hooked ends'16, 23, 25 and 16 respectively, having garments, not shown, arranged thereon may be arranged in slight spaced parallel relation with each other and away from the wall or side of a closet or ward- I robe for the prevention of accumulation of extraneous matter upon the garments and minimizing the spacefor the 'supp'ort'of the" garments. I y
The invention 1s susceptible of various changes in its form, proportlons and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
' Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A support comprising an angular supporting plate having a portion removed, within a pro ecting portion thereof, an edge down turned and struck from the projecting portion of the plate upon a wall of the portion removed, and a supporting arm having a looped'portion adapted for reception within the portion removed and to receive said down turned edge to prevent displacement thereof.
2. A support comprising an angular sup porting plate having a portion horizontally projected therefrom, said horizontally projecting portion having aportion removed, an
edge down turned from the horizontally pro- 1 jecting portion upon one wall of the portion removed, a supporting arm having a looped portion adapted for reception within the portion removed and angularly inclined for looking engagement withthe down turned'edge. 3. A support'comprising an angular supporting platehaving aportion removed within a projecting portion thereof, a supporting arm having a loop portion adapted for recep- I tion within said portion removed, and the loop portion being angularly inclined to en gage the underside oftheprojecting portion of the supporting plate.
a In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature.
- GEORGE S. GRINER.
