Description
Oct. 25, 1966 H. s. O'KONOGI 3,281,027
COMBINATION COAT AND TROUSER HANGER Filed July 27, 1964 United States Patent Ofiice 3,281,027 Patented Oct. 25, 1966 3,281,027 CUMBINATION COAT AND TROUSER HANGER Hugo S. OKonogi, 3rd Civil Aflairs Group, APO 827, New York, N.Y. Filed July 27, 1964, Ser. No. 385,184 2 Claims. (Cl. 223-91) This invention relates to clothes hangers and more particularly to an improved combination hanger for wearing apparel.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a combination coat and trouser hanger which will be used to neatly support a coat and trousers, or may be used to support a shirt, dress or a pair of trousers separately.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a combination coat and trouser hanger which will have an S-shaped member for conveniently and firmly supporting a pair of trousers so that the trousers will not be subject to wrinkles.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a low cost combination hanger which will be non-rusting, slip-proof, and will be attractive in appearance.
A still further object of the present invention is to provide a hanger which will have its upper arcuate bar member removable when it is not desired to support a coat or blouse, and the device will be easily adaptable for military, civilian, hotel, motel, or laundry use.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a combination hanger bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation and use.
For the other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detail description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view comprising the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is a side view of the invention shown in elevation; and
FIGURE 3 is a top plan view of FIGURE 2.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a hanger made in accordance with the present invention is shown to include an arcuate shaped bar 12 made of plastic or other suitable material having a wire hook 14 which freely and slidably receivers bar 12. Bar 12 provides a means for supporting the shoulder area of a coat or dress, and an S-shaped bar 16 made of plastic or other suitable material is secured to the end of hook 14 and provides a means for supporting trousers and the like. An elongated shank 14b is secured to one end of hook 14. Trousers 22 are received by bar 16 in a manner which will hereinafter be described. A bead 24 on wire shank 14b provides a means for preventing bar 12 from descending to the bottom of shank 14b, and a bead 26 on the lower extremity of shank 14b prevents S-shaped bar 16 from falling free of hanger 10. The parallel openings 28 and 30 of bar 16 provide means for firmly securing and receiving trousers 22. It is to be noted that the S-shaped bar has a central arm 16c which is of a relatively wide cross-sectional configuration and at each end of the central arm there is an end arm 16b which extends parallel to and spaced apart from the central arm 160.
In use, the legs of trousers 22 are inserted into the openings 28 and 30 up to the crotch and are then allowed to lap outward, and the bar 16 thus securely holds trousers 22 without wrinkling them.
It shall be noted that the ends of the S-shaped bar 16 are arcuately bent away at 16a, 16b from the openings 28 and 30 to prevent snagging of the material of the garment when inserting or removing it from hanger 10.
It shall further be noted that the wire hook 14 may he slipped through the opening 14a in bar 12 receiving it in order to remove bar 12 from hanger 10 when desired.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. A combination coat and trouser hanger comprising in combination a hook member providing means for supporting said hanger from a clothes rack, said hook having an elongated shank integral therewith, an arcuate upper bar member having an opening therein removably carried by said shank, said bar providing means for supporting a coat or jacket, an S-shaped bar carried by said shank providing means for slidably receiving trousers and the like, a pair of fixed on said shank providing means for supporting said bar of arcuate configuration and said S-shaped bar in spaced positions, upon said shank, said upper arcuate bar member being freely and slidably received upon said shank and being removable from the upper extremity of said hook member when desired, one of said beads being fixed to said shank below the hook to prevent said bar from descending downwardly on said shank, said S-shaped bar having a central arm of wide cross sectional configuration and an end arm of relatively narrow cross-sectional configuration at each end of said central arm, said central arm and said end arms being spaced apart and parallel to each other, the lower extremity of said shank being received through said central arm of said S-shaped bar member and the other of said beads being fixed at the lower extremity of said shank to prevent said S-shaped bar from sliding off of said shank.
2. The combination according to claim 1 wherein the extreme ends of said upper, arcuately configurated bar member overhang the ends of said S-shaped bar member and provide suitable support means for the shoulder area of the coat or jacket, and the ends of said S-shaped bar member being arcuately turned outward and oppositely opposed in direction to provide a means for preventing snagging of the material of the wearing apparel being received by said S-shaped bar member.
