s ilge Srlgrhule tcfrrrih in in tigrsr @time rlmt mit mating putt nf tige stmt.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY OONCERN:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM R. OATLEY, of Rochester, inthe county of Monroe, and State of New York, i have invented a new and improved Railway-Travelling Hook; and that the following description, taken in coni nection with the accompanying drawing, hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact specification of the same, wherein I have set forth the. nature and principles of my said improvements, by which my inventioumay' be l distinguished from all others of a similar class, together with such parts as I ola-im, and desire to have secured to Lne by Letters Patent. Y fh, This invention relates to aV new and improved hook, by which travellers in railway cars may suspend anv hand luggage from the hat-racks over the seats. 'The invention consists in connecting two hooks togetherby a'swivel-joint, one.hookv being of' sufficient dimensions to catch over a rail of the rack, and the other hook of such size that a. strap, string, or cord may be readily suspended or fitted upon it. A The accompanying drawing represents a. side view of my invention. The device is constructed of stout wire, and is composed of two hooks, A B, the upper one, A, being smaller than the other one, B, formed with a point, and slightly curved outward, so that it may be readily fitted over a rail of the rack. The shank a of this hook is made in the form of a loop, b, and the end of the shank c ofthe other-hook, B, passes through the loop, and is provided with a head, d, or is riveted within theloop, so as to form a swivel-joint, and permit either hook to rotate freely. The hook B is made in rather a flat, shallow form, as clearly shown in the drawing,so that it may receive a strnpor handle of a travelling-bag. I
The swivel connect-ion of the two hooks admits of the device adjusting itselfl -to vany position required, so that the article suspended by it may be turned in any position required. I
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new,'and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The two hooks A B, connected by a swivel-joint, and constructed and nrrangedsubstantially in the manner as and for the purpose set'forth.
WM. R. ATLEY. Witnesses:
