Substituted for abandoned application Serial No. 492,043, June 23, 1943. This application February 14, 1948, Serial No. 8,356
1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a combined waist and petticoat. This is a substitute for my abandoned application, filed June 23, 1943, Serial No. 492,043.
The invention proposes a combination waist and petticoat for women, misses, juniors, children and infants, connected together as a unit so that the petticoat will hold the waist down and overcome an inconvenience of standard waists which ride up out of the skirt, and the waist in turn will effectively support the petticoat and avoid the annoyance of a sagging petticoat.
The invention also proposes the construction of a combined waist and petticoat which will eliminate the necessity of wearing a separate waist and petticoat.
Still further the invention contemplates a combination garment in which the waist comprises a standard waist or dickey. The invention also contemplates that this dickey be constructed of woven material or knit material.
Another object of the invention resides in a novel construction of the connecting portion between the waist and petticoat which will facilitate properly supporting the petticoat.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. l is an elevational view of a combined waist and petticoat constructed in accordance with this invention and turned inside out.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary enlarged detailed view of a portion of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary enlarged vertical sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary enlarged vertical sectional view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 2.
The combined waist and petticoat, according to the present invention, includes a dickey 2|, or other waist portion, attached to the top portion of a petticoat 22. A line of stitches 23 is used to attach the adjacent portions of the dickey and petticoat together. At spaced points the top edge portion of the petticoat is provided with a plurality of spaced upwardly projecting tabs 24. These tabs are bent downwardly into loop portions through which a string 25 is laced. The ends of the string are tied together in an openable knot '26. Means is provided for holdin the tabs 24 in several loops of different elevations.
2 This means includes fastener elements 21 attached upon the free ends of the tabs 24 and cooperative with certain of a plurality of complementary fastening elements 28 arranged in vertical rows on the petticoat and in the vicinity of and on the tabs 24.
It should be noted that the tabs 24 are located inside of the dickey 2 i. The string 25 is used for the purpose of contracting the waist portion of the combined garment. The tabs may be adjusted so that the loops come out higher or lower for accommodating the string 25 at different elevations for similarly changing the drawn-in area of said waist portion.
When the upper garment is in the nature of a dickey, this garment may be with or without a collar, with or without a back portion and it may be secured with straps, sash ties or suspender members and joined to the members and joined to the bottom garment so as to prevent the dickey from slipping out of the skirt or other garment.
It is to be understood that both the upper and lower garment may be made of any suitable material, design, style and size or combinations for feminine apparel.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
A garment having a waist with its bottom edge attached to the top edge of a petticoat at the waist portion by a line of stitches, a string engaged about said waist a slight distance above the attached edges of said waist and petticoat, tabs projecting upwardly from the top edge of said petticoat and bent over said string, a vertical line of spaced like snap fasteners provided .on said petticoat adjacent the free end of each of said tabs, a complementary snap fastener element mounted on the free end of each tab and each being selectively engageable with a snap fastener of its respective line of snap fasteners for controlling the operative length of said tabs to support said petticoat at various elevations from said string.
