Description
7, H. T. PEHR COMBINED NECKTIE HANGERS AND HOLDERS Filed Dec. 24, 1964 INVENTOR. Hana/d T. Feb/ ATTORNiZ.
United States Patent 3,381,365 COMBINED NECKTIE HANGERS AND HOLDERS Harold T. Pehr, 637 E. 72nd Terrace, Kansas City, Mo. 64131 Filed Dec. 24, 1964, Ser. No. 421,066 11 Claims. (Cl. 223-87) This invention relates to combined necktie hangers and holders and has particular relation to that type of hangers employed for carrying and displaying neckties on display racks for sale to the public.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved, novel, practical, efficient and economical hanger for neckties which can be made in one piece from suitable materials.
It is a further object to provide such a tie hanger which can be employed to display the tie for sale and which can then be employed by the purchaser of the tie as a tie hanger and as a tie clasp or holder.
It is a further object to provide such a device made of plastic or similar material which contains detachable portions which when detached from a hanger for suspending the tie when Worn and a tie holder for attachment to the buttons of the wearers shirt.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following disclosure thereof together with the attached drawings which illustrate certain forms of embodiment thereof. These forms are shown for the purpose of illustrating the invention since the same have been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which the invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that the invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
These and other objects will be apparent from the following specifications and drawings in which:
FIGURE 1 is a front elevational view of a combined tie hanger and holder made in accordance with the invention.
FIGURE 2 is a side elevational view of the device partially in cross-section along the line 2-2 of FIG- URE 1.
FIGURE 3 is a perspective view of the device as employed on a display rack, a suspended necktie being shown by means of broken lines.
FIGURE 4 is a perspective view of the hanger member of the device having been broken away along a cleavage line.
FIGURE 5 is a perspective view of the tie holder portion of the device.
FIGURE 6 is a perspective view of the lower portion of the tie holder member of FIGURE 5 illustrating its employment as a one-button tie holder.
FIGURE 7 is a view showing the tie holder device of FIGURE 5 attached to the shirt buttons of the wearer and employed as a holder for the necktie of the wearer.
Referring to the drawings, there is disclosed a combination necktie hanger and holder consisting of a hanger member 10, a button engaging member 11 and a holder member 12. Hanger member is curved-shaped at its uppermost end forming a hook 13. Below hook 13 hanger member 10 forms two horizontal arms 14 and 15 the upper arm 14 terminating in an upward extension 16. Lower arm 15 is shorter than upper arm 14 and terminates in a cleavage line 17 which is formed by reducing the thickness of the material along that line so as to be susceptible of breakage upon being bent back and forth. Upper arm 14 is separated from hook 13 by a cutout portion or opening 18 and from lower arm 15 3,381,8fi5 Patented May 7, 1868 by a cutout portion or opening 19. At the center portion .of upper arm 14 there is a small rectangular slot 20 extending from front to back of the arm.
Button engaging member 11 engages hanger member 1 10 at cleavage line 17 and consists .of an upper button receiving loop 21, a downward depending strip 22 and a lower button receiving loop 23. Lower button receiving loop 23 detachably engages downward depending strip 22 at cleavage line 24 which is similarly formed to cleavage line 17 through reduction of the thickness of the material. Button receiving loop 21 has a slot or opening 25 at its upper end and lower button receiving loop 23 has a slot or opening 26 at its lower end.
Necktie holder member 12 forms a flat .oval connecting with one side of lower button receiving loop 23 and being separated from the other side of loop 23 by opening 27.
As shown in FIGURE 3 a conventional necktie 28 is looped over arm 14 of hanger 10, passing through opening 18 being restrained from sideward movement by upward extending arm 16. The rear portion of tie 2 8 is then passed forward through opening 19 and both the front and rear portions of tie 28 then hang downward and are passed through tie holding loop 12. As thus arranged, the necktie may be suspended from the conventional tie display rack by means of hook 13, tie holder 12 serving to keep the tie from disarray when handled by prospective purchasers.
By breaking along cleavage line 17, hook member 10 is separated from button engaging member 11 and holder 12, forming the separate tie hanger of FIGURE 4 and the necktie holder or clasp of FIGURES 5 and 7. The hanger member 10 may be employed as a means by which to hang the tie on a tie rack or closet hook. The separate tie holder of FIGURE 5 may then be used by the tie wearer as a tie clasp or holder as best illustrated in FIG- URE 7, which shows the tie 28 in place on the neck of the wearer. The button receiving loops 21 and 23 engage adjacent buttons 29 and 30 of the wearers shirt as shown in dotted lines in FIGURE 7, upper loop 21 engaging the upper of the two buttons by means of passing the button engaging threads through opening 25. Similarly, lower loop 23 engages button 30 by passing the button engaging threads through opening 26. The tie of the wearer then passes over the button engaging member 11 and through tie holding loop 12.
For those wearers who desire a more simple necktie holder, holder .12 may be detached from hanger 10 at lower cleavage line 24 forming the simplified tie holder of FIGURE 6, which is similarly employed to the holder of FIGURE 5 except that only one button of the wearers shirt is engaged by button receiving loop 23 through opening 26.
It will be noted that button engaging loops 21 and 23 are elongated so as to engage adjacent buttons on the wearers shirt with allowance for some variation in the spacing of buttons.
It will be observed that the arrangement of the button engaging loops is such as to permit the tie holder to be secured to the conventional mans shirt permitting both folds of the tie to be secured against disarray by means of the holding loop, yet permitting movement of the tie through the loop to accommodate the movements of the wearers body, while at the same time restraining the tie against excessive disarrangement.
Because of the simple, one-piece, flat character of the device it may be formed from plastic, pressed cardboard, metal or other materials, and may be produced by stamping or molding processes.
Although the drawings, and the above specification disclose the best modes in which it has been contemplated embodying the invention, the invention is in no way to be limited to the details of such disclosure, for in the further practical application of the invention many changes in the forms and proportions may be made as circumstances require or eXperience suggests without departing from the spirit of the invention within the scope of the appended claims.
