Patented July 6, 1948 SHOULDER STRAP COMBINATION FOR BRASSIERES AND FOUNDATION GAR- MENTS Ann D. Cleasby, Eau Claire, Wis.
Application June 6, 1946, Serial No. 674,833
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a shoulder strap combination for brassieres and foundation garments.
An object of the invention is the provision of simple and eflicient means for preventing shoulder cutting, and provide a pad structure which will not slip after being manually adjusted and which will give comfort and ease, and relieve the shoulders from a heavy bust strain.
Another object of the invention is the construction of a device which can be easily attached to a shoulder strap, and which will be easy to detach and wash when desired.
A still further object of the invention is the combination of a shoulder strap with an adjustable pad structure applied thereto, whereby injury to the shoulder is obviated and comfort obtained in the wearing of the device. I
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view showing the invention applied to a person. I
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a garment having the invention applied thereto.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary plan view of a garment strap in combination with the present invention.
Figure 4 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 4-4, Fig. 3 and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of one of the locker devices.
Referring to the drawings, in which I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, I designates the garment strap and 2 is the elongated shoulder pad, Fig. 3, which is adjustably mounted on the shoulder or garment strap I by means of locker devices I.
The shoulder pad 2 comprises an elongated pad body 4 which is edged with washable satin strips Each locker device comprises a base i, and two space bars I (Fig. 5). From base 6 extends two lips 'I', which register with lips 8 that are an integral part of bars I. Lips I are of an angle structure. The ends of the elongated shoulder pad 2 are attached to the locker devices as follows. An end of pad I is passed between the lips 'I' and O at the inner side of the locker device and then passed between the two bars 1, with the extreme and extending down under the locker device.
Then the garment strap I is passed between the contiguous ends of lips 8 and I at the right side of the locker device, and then over bars I and then between the lips 'I andil at the left hand 5 side of the locker device, so that the strap I is positioned as clearly shown in Figures 3 and 4. This positioning of the pad ends causes same to frictionally engage strap I, which results in holding the pad 2 in an adjusted position.
When the operator desires to adjust -the shoulder pad 2 upon strap I this can be done by pulling on either one of the locker devices which will cause the pad to slide along to the desired position. When the operator releases the locker device th frictional engagement of the pad 2 and strap I is sufficient to lock the pad in its adjusted position. Therefore, it will be seen that the combination involves the garment strap I, the elongated shoulder pad 2, and the locker devices 3 for a complete and practical device, as well as an operative structure.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I,
therefore, reserve the right to make such changes of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
In a device of the class described, the combination with a garment; of a, strap fixedly secured at its ends to said garment, a pair of locker devices on said strap, each locker device having a pair of spaced central bars, pairs of registering lips on said locker device, an elongated shoulder pad, said shoulder pad comprising a pad body provided with reinforced edges, said shoulder pad having its ends threaded over bars in said locker devices-with the extreme end under. lips in said locker devices, and said strap threaded over the bars of said locker devices and in frictional engagement with said pad.
ANN D. CLEASBY.
