SHOULDER PROTECTOR FOR SHOULDER STRAPS Filed Sept. 9, 1948 Florence Y. Trent INVENTOR.
' Anmzy:
Patented Mar. 28, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SHOULDER PROTECTOR FOR SHOULDER STRAPS 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in shoulder protectors and more particularly to the provision of a shield to prevent discomfort caused by the shoulder straps of a womans garment and also to provide means for holding the shoulder strap from falling off the shoulder.
An important object of the invention is to provide a shoulder protector or shield embodying means for easily and quickly attaching a shoulder strap thereto without requiring the use of separate fasteners therefor.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is efficient and reliable in use, neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device in use;
Figure 2 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the shoulder protectors or shields; and
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention the numeral 5 designates an ovate pad which may be constructed of cloth, plastic or other suitable light weight material, with one end of the pad tapered as shown at 6.
The pad is formed substantially at its central portion with a substantially S-shaped slot 1 to provide a pair of oppositely extending spaced parallel tongues 8.
In the use of the invention the pad 5 is placed on the shoulder 9 of a person with the tapered end 6 pointed toward the outer edge of the shoulder as shown in Figure 1 of the drawing and the shoulder strap 10 of a garment II is inserted under the tongues 8.
The pad 5 thus prevents chafing by the strap II) to thus avoid discomfort to the wearer and the tongues 8 of the pad hold the strap from falling off the shoulder of the wearer.
Where the pad 5 is constructed of cloth or other suitable flexible material the same will conform to the contour of the shoulder and when the pad is constructed of plastic or similar stiff more resilient material the same is curved transversely to conformably fit on the shoulder.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A shoulder protector comprising a pad having a substantially s-shaped slot formed in the central portion of the pad and a pair of oppositely extending tongues positioned in the slot in spaced parallel relation with respect to each other and coplanar with the surface of the pad for receiving a shoulder strap under the tongues.
