" BY f ATTORNEYS Patented Oct. 25, 193s PATENT oFFicE BRAB Gabrielle M. r. rei-kes, Hamme, N. y., um
to G. M. Poix, Inc., New York, N. Y., a corportion of New York Application November 18, 1937, Serial No. 175,222
s (ci. z,4z)
The object of this invention is to provide a brassire in which novel means are employed to exert a converging upward pull on the breasts of the wearer, this being accomplished by yieldingly supporting the-right -breast from the left shoulder and the left breast from the right shoulder; means being employed to adjust accurately this yielding converging upward pull on the breasts.
A practical embodiment of this invention is represented in the accompanying drawing, in which e Fig. 1 represents a front view of the brassire as in use;
Fig. 2 represents a back view of the same; and
Fig. 3 represents a detail section on an enlarged scale along one of the shoulder straps, taken in the plane of the line III-III of Fig. 1.
The brassire comprises two breast portions I and 2, generally oval in contour and permanently connected at the front of the brassire. 'Ihese two breast portions respectively terminate in tapered side portions 3 and 4 which extend partly across the back of the wearer. The ends of these tapered side portions are provided with elastic straps 5 and 6, adapted to be removably connected, as, for instance, by providing the free end of one strap with a hook 1, and the free end of the other strap with a loop 8, adaptedto receive the said hook. i
Left and right adjustable shoulder straps 9 and I0 lead respectively upward from the ends of the tapered side portions 3 and 4 at the back of the brassire over the left and right shoulders of the wearer, thence diagonally downward and inward in sliding engagement with the tops of their corresponding fulled breast portions, as, for lnstance, through adjacent slits I I and I2 respec-` tively, and from thence across each other into the bottom hems I3 and I4 respectively of their opposite breast portions, the left shoulder strap 9 extending a distance along within the right bottom hem I4, and the right shoulder strap I Il extending a distance along within the left bottom hem I3. The lower front ends of these shoulder straps are provided with elastic portions I5 and I6 respectively, located and freely extensible within the bottom hems I3 and I4, to allow the shoulder straps to yield somewhat under strain. The remaining portions of the shoulder straps are preferably of inelastic material. The free ends of the elastic portions I5 and I6 of thev shoulder straps are suitably anchored Within their respective bottom hems, to permit the yielding of the shoulder straps as above described.
The adjustability of the shoulder straps may be accomplished by providing sliding buckles I1 and I8 and eyes I 9 and 2li, through which eyes the hook portions 2| and 22 of the shoulder straps pass. 6
To ensure the proper positioning oi the brassire, supplementary straps 23 and 24 extend, respectively, from the top hems 25 and 26 of the breast portions upwardly to the shoulder straps 9 and I0, preferably at points above the 10 means for adjusting the shoulder straps. 'Ihese supplementary straps are preferably made of inelastic material.
From the above description it will be seen that both 'shoulder straps may be accurately adjusted 15 so that a yielding converging upward pull on the breasts of the wearer is accomplished.
It is evident that various changes may be re` sorted to in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts without departing from 20 the spirit andv scope oi my invention, and hence I do not intend to be limited to the particular Iembodiment herein shown and described, but
What I claim is:
1. A brassire comprising breast portions per- 25 manently connected at the front of the brassire and terminating in tapered side portions, means for removably connecting the side portions at the back of the wearer, and shoulder straps extending upwardly rrom the ends of the side por- 30 tions over the shoulders,'thence diagonally downward and inward in sliding engagements with the tops of their corresponding breast portions and from thence freely across each other within the brassire and anchored to the bottoms of 35 their opposite breast portions.
2. A' brassire comprising breast portions' permanently connected at the front of the brassire and terminating in tapered side portions, means for removably connecting the side portions at 40 the back of the wearer, and shoulder straps extending upwardly Irom the ends of the side portions over the shoulders, thence diagonally downward and inward in sliding engagements with the tops of their corresponding breast'portions 45 and from thence freely across each other within the brassire and anchored to the bottomsof their opposite breast portions, and supplementary straps leading upwardly from the tops of the breast portions to the shoulder straps.
3. A brassire comprising breast portions permanently connected at the front of the brassire and terminating in tapered side portions and having top and bottom hems, means for removably connecting the side portions at the back of brassire into the bottom hems of their opposite breast portions and there anchored.
4. A brassire comprising breast portions terminating in tapered side portions and having top and bottom hems, means for removably connecting the side portions at the back of the wearer, the tops of the said breast portions having adjacent slits therethrough, shoulder straps extending upwardly from the ends of the side portions over the shoulders, thence diagonally downward and inward through said slits in their corresponding breast portions and from thence across each other into the bottom hems of their opposite breast portions and there anchored, said shoulder straps having elastic portions freely extensible within said bottom hems. e
5. A brassire comprising breast portions terminating in tapered side portions and having top and bottom hems, means for removably connecting the side portions at the back of the wearer, the tops of the said breast portions having adjacent slits therethrough, shoulder straps extending upwardly from the ends of the side portions over the shoulders, thence diagonally downward and inward through said slits in their corresponding breast portions and from thence across each other into the bottom hems of their opposite breast portions and there anchored, said shoulder straps having 'elastic portions freely extensible within said bottom hems, and means for adjusting the lengths of the shoulder straps.
6. A brassire comprising breast portions terminating in tapered side portions and having top and bottom hems, means for removably connecting the side portions at the back of the wearer, the tops of the said breast portions having adjacent slits therethrough, shoulder straps extending upwardly from the ends of the side portions over the shoulders, thence diagonally downward and inward through said slits in their correspond- I ing breast portions and from thence across each other into the bottom hems oi' their opposite breast portions and there anchored, said shoulder straps having elastic portions freely extensible within said bottom hems, means for adjusting -the lengths vof the shoulder straps, and supplementary straps leading upwardly from the top hems of the breast portions to the shoulder straps.
