FFICE@ CHARLES CARROLL, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
TOILET-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 234,388, dated November 16, 1880.
Application letl January 6, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES CARROLL, of New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and Improved `loiletllase for Travelers, of which the following is a specification.
My device consists of a box conforming approximately to the form of the body and handle of a hair-brush, and adapted to receive a comb together with the brush, the said box being made of pasteboard, tin, thin wood, or other material, so that it will occupy very little more room than the brush and comb which it contains, and being received Within an outer case, which closes the end of the box through which the brush and comb are introduced and covers and protects a mirror with which the face of the box is provided.
In order that my invention may be fully understood, I will proceed to describe it with reference to the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure l is a perspective view of the improved toilet-case closed in readiness for packing in the trunk. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the parts separated, showing the brush and comb projecting from their containing-box. Fig. 3 represents a longitudinal section in the plane indicated by the line 3 3, Fig. l.
A A represent a box conforming nearly to the shape and size of a hair-brush, which is shown at B, the larger part A of the box f1t- -ting closely over the body of the brush, with sufficient space at the side to receive a comb, C, and the smaller part A/ containing the handle. rIhe larger end of the box is open, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, for the insertion and removal ofthe brush and comb, and these may project from the said open end of the box to any convenient length. The projecting part of the brush and comb and the larger portion A of the box are completely covered by an outer case, D, adapted to slip over the same, and formed of similar material to the box; or it maybe made of other more durable or ornamental material, if preferred.
The inner ease is to hold both brush and comb, and there may be separate compartments or not, as maybe preferred. The comb maybe placed on the side of the brush, as shown, or it may be placed under the brush, so as to extend down into the smaller part of the inner case.
A mirror, E, is provided on theface or back of the box A, and is completely' covered and protected by the outer case, D, as shown in Fig. l. If preferred, the mirror may be dispensed with, and in such event the outer case need not cover the whole of the inner case, but may extend `just far enough to lit on its end, as a top fits on a box.
My device provides in the most compact and inexpensive manner for the protection and transportation of such toilet articles as are absolutely necessary for the comfort and convenience of the traveler, and furnishes a handmirror Whenever desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. rIhe brush-holder constructed, substantially as herein described, with an inner case conforming approximately to the shape of the brush, adapted to receive a comb alongside of the brush, having separate compartments for comb and brush, and having a mirror attached thereto, an outer case covering the mirror and the larger part of the inner case'and confining the brush therein, the Whole substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
2. rjhe brush-holder constructed, substantially as herein described, with an inner case conforming approximately to the shape of the brush, adapted to receive acomb alongside of the brush, and having a mirror attached thereto, an outer case covering the mirror and the larger part of the inner case and confining the brush therein, Iall as and for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES CARROLL.
