1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in hair 4 netspand has particular reference to a fastening means therefor. n
An object of the invention is to provide an improved hair net of simple, practical and economical construction wherein the use of any form of elastic bands for contracting the net about the head is avoided by the utilization of a pair of draw strings which are tied at opposite sides of the body of the net and extended through opposed marginal edges of the net, with the other ends of said strings projecting freely from opposite sides of said body so that an outward pull upon the free ends of said strings in different directions will conform the net to the coiffure. The above and other objects will appear more clearly from the following detailed description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing which illustrates a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a rectangular piece of mesh fabric from which the net of the present invention is formed.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the completed net.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary View of one end of the net, and,
Fig. i is a perspective view, showing the hair net in position on the head.
In the present emergency it is highly necessary, from an economical standpoint, to avoid the use of rubber in hair nets and to find a practical substitute for such means used in tting the net to the head of the wearer.
According to the present invention, the solution is found by forming the body portion 5 of the hair net of a piece oi mesh fabric of elongated, rectangular formation. The two ends of said body portion are then gathered, as in Fig. 2, and preferably knotted at t and 1, and to each of said knots is tied one end of one of the draw strings 8 and 9 so that said strings are secured at opposite ends of the net. The formation of the body 5 of a rectangular piece provides the same with opposed edges which, in reality, constitute the front and rear edges of the net when the latter is in its operative position, and these edges are adapted to have the draw strings and!! interwoven therethrough, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The string 8, being securedI at or within the knot 1, extends along and through the rear marginal edge of the body 5 and, adjacent the knot 6, projects outwardly and freely from said body, with a sufficient length of the string protuding to permit the end to be grasped and pulled to contract the rear portion of the net after the latter has been positioned upon the head. Similarly, with the string 9 secured at or within the knot 6, the same is interwoven through the front marginal edge of the net and projects therefrom at a point adjacent the knob 'I and is free to be pulled in a direction away from the knot 6.
In practice, with the net in the position of Fig. 2, it isplaced over the coiffure with the knots situated at the sidesof the head. The projecting ends of the strings 8 and 9 are then grasped and pulled outwardly in opposite directions and, in doing so, the body 5 will be evenly contracted about the head until it closely fits the coiffure. When this has been accomplished, the two ends 'of the strings are brought together either under the chinl or at the back of the neck and tied together so as to secure the net in place.
v It will be understood that the gatherings at 6 and 1, instead of being knotted as shown, may be sewed, clamped or secured in any other desired manner.
What is claimed is:
A hairnet comprising a mesh body portion having gathered, knotted ends and further having opposed marginal'edges, a flexible non-elastic draw string secured at one end to one of said knots and substantially co-extensively interwoven with thek mesh of one of said marginal edges with the other end of said string projecting freely from said body portion contiguous to the other of said knots, and a second similar draw string secured to the latter knot and also -substantially co-eXtensively interwoven with the other marginal ,edge of said body portion with the other end of said second string projecting freely from `said body portion contiguous to the first named knot.
