lClaim.
This invention relates to the process of removing the oxides and other foreign inclusions introduced into cast iron in its various forms known as gray iron, semi-steel and alloyed cast iron in one single treatment by means of adding a distinct chemical known as sodium silico fluoride to the molten metal as a ladle scavenger or flux, or added to the stream of hot iron in the spout as it leaves the cupola and has for its object the purpose of furnishing to the trade a. superior casting product at a price at par with that charged for the product now cast from the untreated metal.
I have found that sodium silico fluoride when added to the molten iron in amounts up to five reduction in rejects due to such defects as blow holes, sponge and slag, the casting product can pounds for every 2000 pounds of iron to be treatt ed will result in a cast iron more free of blow be manufactured and sold at a price at par with castings made from the ordinary run of untreated metal.
I claim:
The process of removing from cast iron the oxides introduced therein and other foreign inclusions by adding sodium silico fluoride to the molten cast iron.
