FELIX ARMAND. MAUREY-DESCHAMPS, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
TOILET-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 230,178, dated `July 20, 1880.
Application filed May 31, 1880.
To all `hom it may concern.:
Beit viown that I, FELIXARMAND MAUREY- DEsoHA MPs, a citizen of theRepublic of France, and residing at Paris, France, have invented certain Improvements in Toilet-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toilet-casesin which space is required to be economized, the object being to stow such necessary articles as are required for the toilet of the traveler in the smallest possible compass, and at the same time have them convenient for use.
My invention comprises clothes, hair, hat, tooth, and nail brushes, a comb, and a handglass, all comprised Within the compass of the clothes-brush 5 and the said combination is inclosed, or may be inclosed, in a case or box, which contains also a small box containing a 1shaving-brush, ear-swab, and nail cleaner and In the drawings, which serve to illustrate my invention, Figure l is a side view of my toilet case, which I denominate a multibrush.77 Fig. 2 is a plan ofthe same, showing the cover or hair-brush removed. Fig. 3 is a cross-section taken in the plane of the line a x in Figs. l and 2.
The other figures will be referred to hereinafter.
Let A represent the back or body of the clothes-brush, and A the bristle portion or brush proper.
The back A is hollowed out into four compartments-a, which contains a comb, a'; b, which contains a hat-brush, b ac, which contains a tooth brush or brushes, c; and d, which contains a nail-brush, d. The compartment c is deep enough to contain two tooth-brushes, one of which may be stiffer than the other. Y
To economize space, the partition-between the compartments c and d is bent, as at e in Fig. 2, so as to enable the brushes c' and d! to iiteach other when arranged handle to brush, as shown.
B is the back and handle of the hair-brush, and B the bristles or brush proper. The ends ofthe back and handle are cut to a bevel, as at ff, and adapted to engage correspondingly- (No model.) Patented in France April 10, 1880.
beveled keepers g g, formed in the back or stock A of the clothes-brush, so thatl when the hairbrush is pushed into its place, as shown in Fig. l, it forms a cover for the compartments in the stock A.
At one end of the stock A and the corresponding end of the back B the keeper and beveled extremities are also given a slight Obliquity, so that the back B may engage the more readily; and to preventits being pushed too far a pin, fi, on the stock A, engages a recess in the back B and serves as a stop.
In the rear face of the back B of the hairbrush I arrange a hand-mirror, j, (see Fig. 3,) for use at the toilet.
I thus provide a compact and convenient toilet companion, which will be especially useful for travelers.
In Fig. 4 I have shown a plan of a case or box in which my improved brush may be carried, in which C is the case, and D the lid or cover, shown as raised on its hinges. The multi-brush is represented in this figure as lying upon its side in the case, and a box, E, fitted into the space necessarily left in the corner of the case, owing to the peculiar shape of the brush. This box E is shown open in Fig. 5, and its cover is shown in Fig. 6. It
is intended to contain ashaving-brush, k, and shaving-soap, if desired, an ear swab and cleaner, l, and a nail file and cleaner, m.
The brush k lies in a small compartment in the box, and Fig. 7 shows the cover therefor.
To enable the user to grasp the brush the better, I provide the stock A with uted sides, as shown.
Having thus described my invention, wha I claim is- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, a toilet-case consisting of a clothes-brush having recessed compartments in its back or stock separated by partitions and adapted to receive the smaller toilet articles, in combination with a hair-brush the back or handle of which is arranged to slide into keepers in the stock of the clothes-brush and form a cover` for the compartments therein, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the clothes-brushv having compartments a b c l in its back or stock and provided with keepers g g, the comb a', and the brushes b', c', and d', adapted to In Witness whereof I have hereunto signed my nume in the presence 0f two subscribing Witnesses.
brush having beveled ends f and n hairb1ush,with n mirror, j, set in its reverse face, all arranged substantially us set forth.
Witnesses l GEO. H. SCIDMORE, GH. MARDELET.
