COIfiBIlTATION TOILET ARTICLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 25, 1921.
Application filed June 28, 1920. Serial No. 392,342.
To all whom it may com/cm:
Be itknown that l, i iw'llnrmirms Blur/r, a citizen of the llnitecl tit-ates, residing at llancoclnin the county of iiitevens and State of liiiiimesota, have invented a new aiul usctul Lomhinatiou Toilet Article, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to im- 1)I'()\"QYHGHJES in toilet articles oi? that type embodying facilities for accomplishing a variety oi purposes.
The principal object oi the invention to provide a combination toilet article ha ving a two-part hotly or casing forming a container adapted to r ceive scissors, hairpins ancl the like, and constructed to re seiuhle in configuration and serve in a capacity similar to the conventionaltype oi haul-z for hair brushes.
Another object of the invention is to proi'irlc a combination toilet article wherein a comb," brush and mirror are mounted upon the aforesaid casing in such a manner as to be readily adaptable for use in th ir respective capacities \vitl'iout inconvenience to the user. V
)1. further object at the invention to. so construct the back or casing oi the toilet article that the sections of which it is formed will afford when closecl a'coznpact object which presents a pleasing appearance, and which will not produce any unclesirahle abrupt margins adjacent the portion thereof carrying the comb.
To-these and other ends, the invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of parts described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims.
One embodiment of the invention is reoresented by Way of example in the acconr panying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1, represents a plan new oil the brush carrying portion of the hotly, or brush section,
Fig. 2, is a plan Vldfi/ of the mirror carryinc" portion of the body, or mirror section,
Fig. 3, is a plan View of the sections of the hotly opened up to clearly show the article receiving compartment formed therein,
Fig, 4, is an edge view of the toilet article, and
Fig. 5, is a. transverse sectional view showing the manner of assembling the various parts.
in the drawingswherein like characters oi? reference indicate like or similar parts througluiut the several views A) designates the hotly or casing of the toilet article in its entirety, which is termed with complementary hingeclly connected sections TL and 2. The sections 1 and 2 have substantially oval hotly portions 3 and elongated handle members l. Carried by the handle members i is a suitable fastener 5 for maintaining the sections in a closed position when so clesirecl Attention is called to the fact that the sections 1 and 2 resemble in configuration, when closed, a brush back oi conventional type, and for the sake of clarity they Will hereinafter be termed the brush section anti the comb section respectively.
The hrush section 1 is "formed with a broadly hei'elerl straight edge the bevel ext nclin inwardly adjacent to the center 01 the 'on, as shown in Fig. l. Wherc'a brush '3" is mounted. The brush 7 is pret erahly elongated and extends lengthwise ot the section as illus rate-c. The inner tace'oi the section 1 is cut away is at Ste form a chamber or receptacle Within which carried a powder-putt, hair pins, scissors anti the like, generally designated by 9. Itis to he notcrlthat the peculiar arrangement ot the brush with respect to the hem elctl edge 6 and bony portion atliortls great facility in using the same for its usual purposes.
The coinh section ii, while resembling the lIH'llSllfiiUlllOli in general configuration, of much less thickness (see Fig. 4:) and is tlcsignei'l to serve a core for the receptacle R l'ornierl in the brush section. The comh section s rnieil with a straight eilge l0 registering with the beveled edge 6 of the brush section and either mounted upon or formed integrally upon the straight cclge l0 a coral) ll. Attention is here called to fact that the loevelecl eclge 6 is former, with such a gradual slope that all abrupt margins adjacent the comb are eliminated, so that the same may he used with tacility. lpon the outer face of the comlo sec ion 2 is mounted av suitable mirror l2, and the meeting edges of both the brush section and the comb section are heveleil to form a compact and useful article which is very pleasing; in appearance.
In operation the cut-away portion or chamber 8 aflords a suitable receptacle for scissors, hair pins and the like; and the brush 7, comb 11 and mirror 12 can be used without inconvenience and to their greatest advantage for their usual purposes. Furthermore, the invention in its entirety forms a complete toilet article which may be packed and transported with ease and to the great convenience of the traveler.
lVhile in the foregoing, there has been illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification such combination and a1- rangement of elements as constitute the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless desired to emphasize the fact that interpretation of the invention should only be conclusive when made in the light of the subjoined claims.
Having described the invention and its objects with such attention to detail as will thoroughly acquaint one skilled in the art with its construction and advantages, I claim- 1. A toilet article of the type described comprising a sectional body portion, said sections normally disposed in superposed registering position with respect to each other, registering straight edges formed on the sections, a comb mounted on one of the straight edges, and the other straight edge being beveled to form a gradual rise from the comb.
2. A toilet article of the type described comprising a sectional substantially. hollow body portion, a comb carried by the body portion, and the sections of the body portion beveled to form a gradual rise from the comb.
3. A toilet article of the type described comprising a body portion formed or" hingedly connected, superposed sections, one of the sections being cut-away to form a com: partment and provided on one of its edges with a broad bevel, the other section forming a closure for the compartment, and a comb carried by the last named section for the purpose set forth.
4:. A toilet article of the type described comprising a body portion formed of hingedly connected superposed sections, a brush carried by one of the sections, a comb carried by the other section, and the first named section provided with a broad bevel from the brush to the comb whereby to maintain the normal functions of each.
5. The combination in a toilet article, having a body portion formed of sections providing a normally closed compartment, oi? a brush carried by one of the sections, a mirror carried by the other of the sections, and a comb mounted on the edge of one or the sectionsbetween the brush and the mirror and directed outwardly from the body portion at a relatively great distance from the brush and mirror for the purpose set forth.
6. A toilet article of the type described comprising a body portion formed of hingedly connected sections, an elongated brush carried by one section and disposedadjacent one of the side edges of the body porv tion, a comb carried by the other section and disposed upon the edge of the section on the side of the body portion opposite the brush, and the first named section provided with a broad bevel from the brush to the comb whereby to maintain the normal functions of each.
7. A toilet article of the type described comprising a sectional body portion, a comb mounted on one of the edges of the body portion, a brush mounted adjacent the edge of the body portion opposite the comb, and
the last named section being beveled from the comb to the brush for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof, I afiix ny signature hereto. I
