BLINDER FOR BRIDLES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,564, dated June 8, 1880.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE DAVIS SMITH, of Spartanburg, in the county of Spartanburg and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blinders for Bridles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawin gs, which form a part of this specification.

Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.

The invention relates to blinders for bridles; and it consists in the improvements in the construction of the same hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings hereto annexed, A. represents the body of the blinder, which is stamped or otherwise formed of sheet metal,in the usual or in any suitable shape.

The body A is provided with a flange, B, in which a recess is formed forthe accom modatiou of the cheek-straps O, by which the blinder is attached to the bridle, of which said straps form a part. The upper and lower ends of the flange B are provided with square or rectangular openings D D, for the reception of the strap-fasteners E. Each of these consists of a metallic plate, F, provided with a centrallylocated upwardly-projecting stud, G, and havin g its sides H H turned upward at right angles to the body of the plate, and provided with outturned flanges I I.

In operation, the fastener is inserted from the outside through the opening D in the blinder-flange. The cheek-strap, which is provided with a series of perforations, J, is then passed between the body and sides of the fastener and the blinder-flange, up over the stud G, upon which it is properly adjusted, and out on the opposite side, thus buckling it securely in place.

The upper front corner of the blind is provided with an opening, K, to receive a fastener, L, similar to the fasteners E, for-the attachment of the forehead-strap M.

My improved blinder for bridles being made of metal exclusively is eminently durable. It is susceptible of ornamentation (by gilding, plating, embossing, engraving, or otherwise) to suit the means and taste of the purchaser; and the fastener with which it is provided is simple, inexpensive, and easily adjusted.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The combination, with a metallic blinder for bridles having openings D D K, of the strapfasteners herein described, consisting of metallic plates having centrally-located upwardlyprojecting studs and upturned sides having outturned flanges, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
