UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES C. FIELD, OF CRETE, NEBRASKA.
COMBINED CLOTHES-RACK AND MANTEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 227,749, dated May 18, 1880.-
I Application filed January 28, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, CHARLES C. FIELD, of Crete, in the county of Saline and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and Improved Combined Clothes-Rack and Mantel, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved combined clothes-rack and mantel which is simple in construction and effective and convenient in use.
The invention consists in a hollow lintel having the front side pivoted at its lower edge and the upper part solid, and provided with a series of radiating recesses, D, in front, in combination with bars, as hereinafter described.
I11 the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents-a plan view of my combined mantel and clothes-rack, and showing the rods or Fig. 2 is a crosssectional elevation of the same on the linear 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The hollow lintel A of a mantel, B, has its front side, 0, pivoted or hinged at its lower edge to the bottom of the lintel in such a manner than when the front 0 is raised and locked it presents the appearance of an ordinary architrave of a mantel. The upper part, H, of this lintel is solid, and is provided with a series of radiating recesses, D D, on the front side. A number of rods or bars, E E, fit into these recesses D D and form a fan -like clothesare inserted in the recesses D D, as many being used as may be necessary. This arrangement permits of drying clothes and similar articles very rapidly, as they are exposed to .the heat of. the grate or stove of the mantel,
and is so simple that it can be built up or removed in a very short time.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with bars E, of a hollow lintel, A, having thefront side pivoted at its lower edge and the upper part solid, and provided with a series of radiating recesses, D, as and for the purpose specified.
