UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIOE.
GEORGE W. RINEHART, OF NEW PHILADELPHIA, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN FRUIT-DRIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 204,452, dated June 4, 1878; application filed April 24, 1878.
7 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. RINEHART, of New Philadelphia, in the county of Tuscarawas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fruit- Drying Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in fruit-driers adapted to be used upon cookingstoves.
It consists in certain peculiarities in the construction of an adjustable heat concentrator, which may be set either out from or close to the main casing, for purposes hereinafter fully set forth.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of the complete device. Fig. 2 shows the heatconcentrator removed. Fig. 3 is a side elevation. Fig. 4 is the heat concentrator, and Fig. 5 shows a modification of the mode of constructing and applying the heat-concentrator.
a is the main casing, of ordinary construction, having the removable shelves at, door a and the openings a and damper a, as shown. It has formed through one of its sides a series of openings, a through which the heat passes from the concentrator. It has affixed to its upper end an apron or flange, a, which sets out slightly from, and extends downward over, the upper end of the perforated side I).
b is the heat-concentrator, constructed with the wings I) b, the Wing b being hinged so that it will turn with the door a Its upper end, when it is closed in against the casing a, slips up under the apron a as shown in Fig. 1, and when it is extended or set out from the casing its upper end is flush with the under edge of the said apron, as shown in Fig. 3, and it is provided with the air-inlet holes b When closed up against the casing it may be held by hooks or other suitable fastenings.
In Fig. 5 is shown a modification in the mode of constructing the concentrator and apron. Instead of having the apron a fixed to the casing, it is hinged to the upper edge of the concentrator, and small hooks or guards b are affixed to the top of the casing, which hold the apron in proper position.
In use, the device is set on the stove, and, if desired, the concentrator may be extended out, as shown in Fig. 3,so that a greater heating-surface will be covered, and the heat concentrated and carried into the casing through the openings a to the fruit on the shelves.
I do not claim the casing having removable shelves as my invention; but,
Having described my invention, what 1 claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The combination, with the casing at, having heat-apertures a of the extensible side or heatconcentrator b, having wings I) b and apron a substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE W. RINEHART.
Witnesses;
