UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
J ONAS WING, OF IEIOOSIOK FALLS, NEW YORK.
IM PROVEMENT IN GLQTHES-RACKS.
Specification forming part cf Letters Patent N0. 210,177, dated November 19, 1878; applieation filed J une 22, 1877.
T0 all 107mm it mag conce1n:
Be it known that I, J ONAS WING, of H0osick Falls, Rensselaer county State 0f New York, have invented a new and Ixnproved Glothes- Back, of whieh the following is a speeification:
'lhe nature of my invention consisos in the manner ofeonst-rucin g and arran gin g a clothesrack composed of a series of connected overlapping frames, so that it may be folded in when not in use, and that; it may be bang against or be attached to the Wall of the room or applied to ehe side Walls of a window, with the swinging pivoted frames adjustable, and secured in position by means of a detainingpin and key.
In the accompanying drawing there are three illustrations of my invention.
Figure l shows the same in perspective with the overlapping frames distended, and the manner of securing the same in position by means of the pin and key, Fig. 2 exhibits, in perspeetive, the rack with the frames folded in and the key removed from the detainingpoint. Fig. 3 ilIustrat-es, in perspective, an enlarged view of tl1e apparatus used to vary o1 adjustthe position of the rack.
In all of the illustrations 1ike letters a1e p1aeed upon 1ike arts.
'lhe hanging raek 01' back frame F has illserted eye1et-hooks ab the top, as shown' ab E E, arranged so as to be hooked upon receiving hooks or nails in the Wall against whi eh it; is designed to bang the frame.
'lo the sides of the back frame, F, are a1- ranged a series of attached frames, H H H H.
: These a1e pivoted als the back to the rack 01 frame II, as shown ab J and are so arranged that they swing up or down, and each oneof these swinging frames laps beyond the one beneath it when extended.
Upon the sides of the frames H H H H is arranged a connectin g-ba1, B, and this is also pivoted. to the swinging frames, so that they all move together.
Attaehed to the back frame or rack F is a block in the form of a semieircle, as shown ab O, upon the outer edge of which is made a series of holes, (shown at O O O,) for the recepcion of the key K.
Uponthe eonneeting-bar B there is placed a staying-pin, I, which, when in contaot with the applied. key K, holds the movable frames in a fixed position, which may be raised 01 depressed by using ehe key in the different holes shown ab O O O;
While I prefer to make tl1is device with the frame F, yet the latter may be dispen sed with, and the swinging frames may be pivoted t0 the inside of awindow or permanently attached t0 the wal1 of a room or house, With the semicircular block 0 also so attached, and the (leviee will operate in the same manner. There may be arranged any number of these frames, as shown ab H H H H, that may be desirable.
I do not broadly ela'nn as myinvention a series of frames pivoted ab the end, .and desire 130 limil3 my invention to the combination of such frames and the means of operatingthemviz., a connecting-bar and the detaining-pin and key, as shown.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire t0 secure by Letters Patent, is-- In a clothes-raek, in combinabion, the pro jeeting pivotedand overlapping frarnesliH H H, tl1e pivoted connecting-bars B, the semicircular blocks O, the keying apparatus K, the pin P, am]. back frame F, arranged to Operate as shown and described.
Signed at Troy this 12th day of March, 1877.
J ONAS WING.
