Patented April 13,1875.

INVENTOR WITNESSES I Attorneys THE GRAPHIC COIPNOTO -LITH.398=4Y PARK PLAGE,N.Y.
STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
DANIEL W. BARR, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FASTENERS FOR DOORS AND SHUTTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,011, dated April 13, 1875; application filed September 23, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL W. BARR, of Reading, in the county of Berks and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door and Shutter Fasteners 5 and do hereby declare that thefollowin g is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the combination, with two doors or shutters, oftwo metallic plates, each provided with a button near its outer end, and a latch-bar provided with a notch in its upper edge near one end, and a notch in its lower edge near the other end, said latch being pivoted to one of the plates, all as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, Figure 1 reprepresents a perspective, and Fig. 2 a plan, view. Fig. 3 is a view of one of the button-bolts.
In the figures, A A represent two folding doors, to which this bolt and hook are to be applied. B B represent two metallic plates, which are firmly secured, one to each of the doors. Each of these plates is provided with two button-bolts or bolts with button-heads upon them, as seen at a a a a. 0 represents the latch-bar, which consists of a metal bar pivoted to one of the plates, and having slots or openings 0 e in its edges to catch upon the button-bolts a a. When this latch is raised to a vertical position, as seen in Fig. 2, the doors are allowed to swing open; but when dropped to a horizontal position, as seen in Fig. 1, the latch catches the buttons or behind the heads of the bolts a a, and then the doors are securely fastened. One of these bolts 64 is provided on its outer end with a perforated flange, a, as seen in Fig. 3. X represents a hook, which may be pivoted to one of the plates B by the same bolt which connects the latch. This hook is intended to catch into one of the perforations or holes of bolt to, Fig. 3, when the doors are partially open or bowed for the purpose of holding them in that position.
This arrangement makes a secure and cheap fastening for folding doors or any door upon which it can be used.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the doors or shutters AA, of the two plates B B, each provided with a button-bolt, a, near its outer end, and the latchba-r O pivoted to one end ofthe plateand provided with a notch, E, at its upper end, and a notch, E, at its lower edge, near the other end, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 31st day of August, 1874.
DANIEL W. BARR.
