l t I 3 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIoE.
WILLIAM H. VAN DYOK, OF GOXSAOKIE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOPS FOR CHILDRENS CARRIAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 219,784, dated September 16, 1879; application filed I August 16, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. VAN DYcK, of Ooxsackie, in the county of Greene and. State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tops for Childrens Carriages and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to tops for childrens carriages andit consists in the construction of devices for making the same adjustable in any position desired, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, Iwill now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, showing different positions in dotted lines, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same with top G removed.
A A represent the ordinary pivoted uprights, adjustable at different angles by means of set-screws a a in slotted brackets B B.
The upper ends of the uprights A A are forked, as shown, and connected by means of a bail, G, standing at right angles to the uprights.
In the center of the bail O is formed a circular enlargement or disk, b, on which is piv- In the forked end of the arm D is inserted a set-screw, I, which is to bear against the pivoted arm of the iron F to hold the same at any angle to which it may be set.
It will thus be seen that, in addition to the adjustment afforded by the usual pivoted uprights A A,the top can be adjusted from side to side by turning the arm D, and also thrown forward or backward by the iron F turning in the arm.
The various parts may be held in the different positions either by set-screws .or by friction-joints, or by other equivalent devices.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the adjustable uprights A A, of the bail 0, adjustable arm D, and the top G, provided with the iron F, adjustable in the end of the arm D, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM HENRY VAN DYOK.
