IMPROVEMENT IN BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 217,174, dated July 1, 1879; application filed May 15, 1879.
To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM G. TURToN,
of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis, and in .tached, as required, and also form stops for the lid, so that it can only be thrown back a certain distance, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation,referring I to the annexed drawings, -in which- Figure l is a perspective viewof a box with lid embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a crosssection of the same.
A represents a box with lid B. O O are the hinges, which are fastened to the back edge of the lid B in the usual manner. In the leaf of each hinge O which is to be fastened to the box is one or more holes, and an eye-screw or thumb-screw, D, is used to fasten said leaf to the back of the box.
In the drawings I have shown two of these eyescrews for each hinge; but one will be sufficient under ordinary circumstances.
The eye or thumb screws D project a sufficient distance beyond the back of the box to form stops for the lid, as shown in Fig. 2, so that the lid cannot go all the way back, but onlya certain distance, the screws holding the lid in such position. The lid can also, by this means, be easily and quickly detached from the box and attached again when desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the box A and lid B, of the hinges O O and one or more eye-screws or thumb-screws, D, for each hinge, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
