Description

No. 788,879. PATENTED MAY 2, 1905 H. BURSIG.
HANDLE FOR DRAWERS.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 28. 1904.
Patented May 2, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
HERMANN BORSIG, OF ZURICH, SWITZERLAND.
HANDLE FOR DRAWERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 788,879, dated May 2, 1905.
Application filed June 28, 1904. Serial No. 214,514.
To all 11/71/0111 it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMANN BoRsIo, a citizen of the Swiss Confederation, and a resident of Zurich, Switzerland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Handles for Drawers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to handlesfor drawers, and particularly for drawers of letter-cases. The construction of such handles is improved in such a manner that labels can be inserted in the handle for indicating the contents of the drawer.
In the accompanying drawings the improved handle is shown, in
Figure 1, ina front view. Fig. 2 isa ground plan, and Fig. 3 is a section 'on line A B of Fig. 2.
The handle is made of a piece of sheet metal which is folded along its longitudinal middle line and bent backward at both ends, as shown in Fig. 2. The ends 2 3 are then bent again, so that they are parallel to the center part 4. The two layers of sheet metal are close upon one another at the end parts 2 3, but slightly apart in the center. The front layer of the center part 3 has an opening 5 of suitably rectangular shape and a vertical slot 6 at one end where the bend begins. A flap 1 projects from the edge of the front layer of the center part, which flap is slightly curved backward.
The handle is fixed to the front wall of the drawer with the two end parts 2 3 by means of nails, screws, or in any other suitable manner. The center part stands somewhat olf the front wall of the drawer, so that one can grip behind said center part of the handle.
The label can be inserted through the slot 6 between the two layers of the center part, so that it appears through the opening 4.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure Letters Patent, 1s
An improved handle for drawers consisting of a piece of sheet metal folded along its longitndinal middle line and bent backward at its two ends to form flat end pieces parallel with the front part but distant from the same, said front part having therein a longitudinal slot and at one of the ends of the central portion a vertical slot and a flap at the edge of the front wall slightly bent backward, substantially as described and shown and for the pur-.
pose set forth.
in testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
