To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ROGER D. LEWIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lloyd, in the county of Portage and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Shade and Curtain Brackets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to shade and ourtain brackets and more particularly to such brackets which are adjustable, and has for its object to provide a bracket which may be adjusted to shades and curtain poles of different lengths.

Another object is to provide a structure which will be such that the weight of the curtain and rod supported thereby, will hold it in its adjusted position.

Another object is to provide a device having these characteristics which shall be simple and cheap and which may be produced at a low figure.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, and it will be understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts of the several views-Figure 1 is a view showing a portion of a window provided with the present brackets. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the brackets showing the diagonal bending of the main member. Fig. 3 is a detail of the attaching device. Fig. 4 is an enlarged front elevation of the complete bracket. Fig. 5 is a similar view showing a modified form'of bracket. Fig. 6 is a top plan of the modified bracket.

Referring now to the drawings, there is shown a curtain bracket comprising an attaching device 10, and a main bracket member 11. The attaching device consists of a metallic plate having a pair of vertically extending transversely spaced integral straps struck up therefrom and having, between the straps, a pair of oppositely extending tongues 12, the straps being indicated at 13, and 13. At their ends the straps are connected with fiat flange portions 14:, which are of course offset out of the plane of the straps, but which are in the same plane with with a longitudinal the tongues 12. The ends of the two straps are disposed in common lines, which extend diagonally and transversely of the attaching device, so that the extremities of the strap 13 are slightly above the extremities of the strap 13', as shown. The passage which, in effect, is formed by these straps, thus has a forward and upward trend. At the opposite edge of the strap 13 from the strap 13, there are lateral extensions of the end flanges 14, which project beyond the edge of the strap 13, as shown, and the lower flange 14 has an outwardly projecting lip 15, which has a finger 16, directed upwardly, as illustrated.

The main bracket member 11 consists of a metallic plate of considerable length, which, at one end, is bent upon a diagonal transversely extending line, as shown at 17, to form an outwardly directed portion 18, which is also directed upwardly, as shown. Beyond this portion 18, the plate is bent again on a diagonal line 19, parallel with the line 17, and there is thus produced a longitudinally extending portion 20 of the plate, which joins a terminal pole-receiving portion 21, which is bent outwardly on a diagonal line parallel with the lines 17 and 19, and indicated at 21. The pole receiving portion 21 has a pole notch 22 therein, and the portion 18 has a pintle receiving opening 23 therein, for the reception of the pintle of a shade roller. The lower edge of the main portion of the plate 10 is provided series of teeth, for the reception, interchangeably, of the finger 16, to hold the main portion of the plate at different points of its sliding movement through the straps 13 and 13. As will be seen, the main portion of the plate extends upwardly and laterally, andthus, the weight of the pole will tend to cause the bracket member to move downwardly and laterally under the straps and will thus prevent accidental disengagement of the finger from the notches.

In the modified form of the invention, there is shown a similar bracket, except that the bends of the main bracket member are at right angles to the side edges of the bracket member, as shown, these bends being indicated at A, B and C respectively. In this form of the invention the operation is the same, but the bracket is simply held against upward movement by the weight of and curtain and there is no lateral the pole under this An adjustable bracket of the class described comprising an attaching device including end flanges and a pair of vertically extending offset struck out spaced straps and a pair of oppositely extending tongues in the plane of the end flanges and between the straps, one of said end flanges having an outwardly extending lip at one side of the strap and an upwardly directed finger at one end of the lip, a plate slidably engaged between the tongues and the strap, and having a plurality of notches in its lower edge arranged for interchangeable reception of the finger, said plate being bent at one side of the attaching device to produce roller and pole receiving portions.
