This invention relatesto improvements in curtain fixtures and has for its chief object the provision of simple and effective means for detachably coupling the rod to its supporting brackets.
Another object of the invention is to pro- Vide a curtain fixture which is inexpensive in construction, which is neat in appearance, and which is so designed as to effect the ready application and removal of the rod to and from its brackets, the latter embodying selfcontained latching elements for interlocking engagement with the rod.

In the embodiment of my invention shown in Figures 1 to 5 inclusive, 10 indicates the so top strip of awindow casing to which the curtain rod 11, which may be extensible, is attached by brackets 12; The rod shown is of the sectional flat bar type having rearwardly bent lips or flanges 13 at its upper 25 and lower edges which are adapt-ed to telescopically fit one within the other, the outer ends of the rod-sections being adapted to slidingly fit over the brackets.
Each bracket 12 has a rod-receiving arm or 0 portion 1 1, which, in this instance, is parallel to the window-casing and spaced therefrom by a transverse connecting web 15 projecting outwardly from the attaching base of the bracket, as seen in Figures 2 and 4. The rod- L5 engaging arm and its connecting web have an intercommunicating longitudinal slot 16 which terminates at one end adjacent the free end of said arm and at its other end at the base of the bracket, as clearly shown in FigiO ure 4, to form upper and lower guide members for receiving the corresponding flanged edges of the rod 11. lVhile the resulting lower portion of the bracket-arm 14 and its web are fixed or integrally joined with the base of the bracket, the upper portion is disconnected from the base, as seen in Figures '3 and 4, to form a yieldable latching element 17 which is free to yield or be displaced vertically in the plane of the arm toward and from the lower portion thereof. In its top edge, the longitudinal portion of this latching element has a locking tooth or projection 18'engageablc with an opening 19 formed in the flanged upper edge of the curtain rod adjacent its end. The transverse portion of the latching element has a finger piece 20 formed thereon by which the same may be forced downwardly to release its locking tooth from the rod-opening, as indicated at the right hand end of Figure 1. This tooth is preferably sloped at one side and more orv less abrupt at its other side to enable the rod to be automatically interlocked therewith by merely slipping it over the bracket-arm and prevent accidental displacement of the parts in their latched position, respectively.
In Figure 5, I have shown my invention in connection with a different type of curtain rod 21, one which projects outwardly a greater distance from the window casing than the type or rod previously described. In this case the rod-engaging arm of the bracket 22 is disposed at right angles to the window casing, but otherwise the construction of this bracket is practically the same 8 as that described in the former type.
This improved fixture, while manifestly simple and compact in construction and is producible at a moderate cost by a stamping operation, insures a positive and reliable connection of the rod to the brackets; it is durable,and the latching means being a self contained part of the bracket is always in place for use. Furthermore, this combined bracket and latching element is capable of use with present day rods now in common use without altering their construction.
I claim as my invention 1. In a curtain fixture, a bracket having a supporting arm consisting of spaced guide .190
members connected at their free ends for cojointlyreceiving a curtain rod in telescopic relation thereto, one of said guide members being fixed to the bracket and the other being detached therefrom'and yieldable in the plane of said armafor interlocking engagement with the rod, the detached end of said yiel'dable arm having a projection disposed beyond the rod-engaging portion thereof.
