EXTENSION-HANGER FOR WINDOW-SHADES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 458,447, dated August 25, 1 891.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM T. ESTBERG, a citizen of the United States. and a resident of est Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension- Hangers for WVindow Shades; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in extension-hangers for window or other shades.

The object of this invention is to provide an improved form of hanger for shades of all descriptions, which is capable of being extended or adjusted so as to fit any size of window, and which can be readily applied to the frame thereof, thus obviating much of the difficulty now experienced in fitting and adj usting the ordinary hangers.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described, and specifically defined in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a window, showing myimproved hanger applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a front view, partly in section, of the hanger detached; Fig. 3, a plan or up view of the same.

In carrying the invention into effect I take a piece of stiff wire and bend the same into the peculiar form shown in the drawings, the same comprising the two parallel horizontal arms 1 1, twisted together intermediate of the ends, as shown at 2, for the purpose of stiffening or strengthening the same, the arms 3 3 extending outwardly at right angles to the arms 1, the bend or loop 4, for the purpose of engaging with a screw or other fastening device, and the bend or hook 5 for the purpose of securing the journals of a shade-roller.

The numeral 6 designates a metal plate having its edges turned or bent over, forming ways 7 to receive the arms 1 1.

The operation will be readily understood. The arms 1 1 are inserted in the Ways 7 of the plate 6, and they are movable therein so as to adjust the device to the width of the window to which it is to be applied. The device is then secured to the window-frame by nails or screws which engage with the bends or loops 4, and the journals of the shade-roller are then engaged with the books 5. It Will thus be seen that an extension or adjustable hanger is produced, the advantages of which will be apparent.

Having thus described my invent-ion, what I claim is In an adjustable or extension hanger for window-shades, the combination, with the plate 6, having turned-over edges, forming guides or ways 7, of the arms, consisting of a single piece of wire bent over upon itself at 2 and the ends inserted in saidways or guides,the upwardly-proj ectin g loop 4, formed in one of said arms, and the outwardly-extending hook 5, formed by bending said wire at the point Where it is bent upon itself, substantially as described.
