Description
G. PEAOOOK. Beaming Tongs.
No. 216,446. Patented June 10,1879.
INVENTOR jpgi/ITNESSES 6 W ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
GEORGE PEACOOK, OF SELMA, ALABAMA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEAMlNG-TONGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 216,446, dated J une 10, 1879; application filed May 10, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE PEAGOCK, of Selma, in the county of Dallas, and in the State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in seaming-Tongs; and do hereby declare that the following is .a full, clear, and exact description of the inuse the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair of seaming-tongs with my attachment applied thereto. Fig. 2 shows a detailed modification of the invention.
A A represent the jaws of the seaming-tool, provided with handles B B, which are pivoted together at a. 0 represents a lever bent as shown, and formed with a foot-piece, I), at one end. This lever is slotted, and straddles one of the handles B, and is pivoted thereto. This, pivot or fulcrum may be made a fixed part of the tool, as shown at b in Fig. 1; or it may be made as a separate piece, F, as shown in Fig. 2, said fulcrum F being pivoted in the lever, and the handle of the tool passing through a hole in such fulcrum and fastened by a setscrew, d. By this means the lever becomes adjustable, and can be fastened at any point on the shank or handle.- In the other end of the lever G is mounted a grooved roller, h, which runs loose on its axis, in which position it runs up and down the other shankor handle of the tool to that on which the fulcrum is attached.
By my invention both compound and progressive leverage is obtained, and thereby extreme labor reduced and great speed of operation obtained. By its adjustability the leverpoWer can be attached to all kinds of scaming-tools.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In combination with a seaming-tool, the lever D, fulcrumed to one handle, and having a grooved roller, h, working against the other handle, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The lever D, provided with the pivoted fulcrum F and grooved roller h, in combination with the shanks or handles of a seamingtool and the set-screw cl, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hzwe hereunto set my hand this 2d day of May, 1879.
GEORGE PEAOOOK. Witnesses:
J. G. COMPTON, J. R. SATTERFIELD.
