IMPROVEMENT rIN CANDLE-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 214,868, dated April 29, 1879; application iled September 23, 1878.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK ARZT, of New York, in the State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Candle-Holder for Christmas-Trees, of which the following is a specification. A
The object of my invention is to produce a cheap candle-holder which can readily be attached to the branches of a Christmas-tree.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure I represents a side view of my improved candleholder, and Fig. II is a top view ot' the same.
A represents the top plate or holder, made any desired shape, and provided with projecting prongs O, between which the wax or other suitable candle is held fast.
A small projection, A', is made at the end of this plate. B is a lower plate. Between the top plate and bottom plate a coiled spring, D, is arranged, attached to both plates, and acting at the same time as a hinge for the same.
A flat spring bent or doubled may be used for the same purpose. The bottom plate, B, has a small projecting part, B', similar to A', and the ends of the spring D act against these projecting parts A' and B', so as to force the same apart, and consequently7 force the other ends, A and B, together. l
The edges of the plate B under the central part of the plate A are serrated to form teeth or projections, which are bent upward yto insure a rmer gripe on the branches of the tree.
To attach this holder to the tree, the projections A' and B' are pressed together, whereby the other ends of the platesA and B are moved apart, when the branch of the tree can be placed between the same, and will lthen be held tight by means of the action of the spring D, or, in other words, the holder will thereby be firmly attached to the branch of the tree.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with a candle-holder, A, the plate or arm B, and suitable spring D, connected to the holder and arm, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
