UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNST E. CONRAD, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO HENRY COULTER.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOLDERS FOR LAMP-SHADES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 34,921, dated April 8, 1862.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNST E. CONRAD, of the city of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Lamp-Shades; and I do hereby declare that the following is atrue and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 in the annexed drawings, which is made a part of this specification, represents a plan View of the holder, with the clamps a a a a, intended to hold the shade, and the double braces 17 1) b b, which rest against the sides of the chimney and answer as asupport to the shade and holder.
Fig. 2 is a side View, in which 0 crepresent the form of the clamps before the top is bent over to hold the shade, each clamp being made of a thin and narrow piece of brass, in place of two pieces, as in Dopp & Meads holder. By this simple construction the process of securing the shade is greatly facilitated, as, instead of bending it over at top to get the edge between the double clamps, you have only to place the shade in its proper position, bend down the end of the clamp, and it is firmly secured.
C is the wire rim, recommended for its lightness.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. The clamps a a a a, for the purpose of holding the shade, as and for the purpose herein set forth and described.
2. The clamps a a a a, in combination with the double braces b b b b and the wire rim 0, in the manner and for the purpose herein specified.
ERNST E. CONRAD.
