LAMP-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 25, 1913.
Application filed April 20, 1912. Serial No. 692,100.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STACY Cox, a citizen of the United States, residing at Upton, in the county of Weston and State of Wyoming, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Burners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvemen s in lamp burners and particularly to that class of burners which may be tilted for the purpose of filling the lamp, and an object of this invention, is to provide a lamp burner which is provided with a threaded collar pivotally secured to its base whereby a firm connection to the lamp is secured.
Another object of this invention is to provide a lamp burner having a pivoted collar secured to its base, in which the pivotal connection between the burner and collar, and the spring catch which holds the members in closed position is formed of one piece of spring wire.
With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the construction and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary rear view thereof. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the device, and Fig. 4 is a transverse section on the line 4-4, of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference the numeral 1 indicates a lamp burner having a circular collar 2 pivotally secured to its base. The collar is provided with a depending neck 3 which is threaded as at 4 and which is adapted to be secured in the neck of a lamp. The seat 5 is formed on the collar for the reception of a washer 6 which forms a tight joint between the burner and the collar. The upstanding portion 7 of the collar 2 is provided with a peripheral flange 8 which is doubled back upon the wall of the collar to securely hold the intermediate portion of a spring wire 9. J uxtaposited apertures 10 are formed in the burner and collar to receive the wire 9 forming a pivotal connection whereby the burner may be tilted. The opposite ends of the wire are twisted and bent to form a spring catch 11 which is adapted to engage a lip 12 formed on the burner for holding the members in closed position. The extremities of the wire are extended laterally as at 13 to form a handle for manipulating the catch.
When the lamp is in use the spring catch will securely hold the burner in position upon the lamp. When it is desired to fill the lamp the catch may be readily released and the burner may be tilted backward whereupon the oil may be poured into the lamp through the collar.
It is apparent from the foregoing description that the spring wire will securely hold the burner and collar together by means of the apertures in the members and at the same time form a spring catch for locking the members in closed position.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. An article of the character described comprising a burner member, a collar pivotally secured to the burner member, a peripheral flange formed on the collar at the upper edge thereof, a spring wire extending completely around said collar and secured thereto by the said peripheral flange, the intermediate portion of said wire forming the pivotal connection between the said 001- lar and burner member, and the opposite ends of the said wire forming a spring clasp for the purpose specified.
2. An article of the character described comprising a burner member, a collar pivotally secured to the burner member, a peripheral flange formed on the collar at the upper edge thereof, a spring wire encircling the said collar, said peripheral flange on the collar adapted to be bent over the said wire thereby securing it to the collar, the intermediate portion of said wire being hingedly secured to the burner, and the opposite ends of said wire being twisted and bent to form a spring clasp for engagement with the burner member for holding the burner member in a closed position.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
