Be it known that we, CHARLES P. BYNON and JAMES STEWART, Jr., of Yonkers, in the county of \Vestchester and State of New York,
haveinvented a new and Improved Lamp Attachment, of which the following is a t'ull,clear, and exact description.
This invention has for its object to provide a cheap and convenient device to be attached to to lamps for holding the lamp'burner, or burner and globe combined, thus obviating the necessity of removing the burner and wick from the lamp while the lamp is being filled. Reference is to be had to the accompanying i5 drawings, l'orminga part ot'this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate correspondingparts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of our invention. Fig. 2 shows the device attached to the 20 lamp for use. Fig. 8 is a plan view of a lampcollar provided with a stud for holding the attachment in position for use. Fig. 4 isa simi lar view of a clasp-ring for holding the attachment, the ring being adaptedto be applied to lamps already in use; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view 01' a modification.
A represents the attachment. This in most cases will be made in two parts the main part A and the bow A The part A is bent to form the arm a, downwardly-projectiug fold b, and lip 0. The bow A is riveted to the outer end of the arm a. as shown clearly in Fig. l, and the arm a is formed with the retaining-notch d. to receive the wick-spindle w of the burner T of the lamp U, as shown in Fig. 2. For lamps already in use, to apply the attachment A for holding the burner T, it is only necessary to slip the lip-c over the edge of the collar V of the lamp after the burner has been unscrewed,when the lip c and fold b will act against the collar V and hold the arm a out in horizontal position, so that by simply placing the spindle w in the slot (Z and the burner upon the bow A the burner will be held away from the lamp, as shown in Fig. 2, so as not to interfere with the filling of the lamp.
In some cases for lamps already in use we, shall provide the ring B, (shown in Fig. 4,) which is a split ring made, preferably, of spring metal and formed with the Tstud e and loop f, either or both, to hold the lip 0, the ring being adapted to be placed around the collar V of the lamp. For use with the T-stud e the lip 0 must be slotted to form the claws c c, as shown in Fig. 1. These claws are not necessary with the loop f, nor when the attachment is applied directly to the collar V.
When new burners are made to receive our new at tach ment,the collar 'V will have formed upon it or secured to it the T-stud g, or similar fixed device, as shown in Fig. 3, to receive and hold the lip c, or the claws thereof, and when the attachment is made to be used es pecially with the studs 0 g or loop f the fold 6 b may be omitted, if desired.
instead of riveting the bow A to the arm A, the bow and arm maybe made in one solid piece stamped from sheet metal, if desired, as shown in Fig. 5.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. As an improved article of manufacture,
a lamp attachment consisting of a bar having 7 a lip at one end for securing it to a lamp and a burner-support at its other end, as set forth.
