OIL-CAN AND FUNNEL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 7, 1913.
Application filed April 12, 1913. Serial No. 760,631.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES J. Cox, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oskaloosa, in the county of Mahaska and State of Iowa, have invented certain new. and use ful Improvements in OiLCans and Funnels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of oil cans which are adapted to carry oil and to fill lamps, lanterns, etc., and its object is to provide a funnel and convenient means for carrying it, whereby oil may be guided from some storing vessel into this can, and whereby the oil may be guided into lamps, lanterns, etc., when filling them from this can; and whereby the funnel may be conveniently stowed away without danger of being lost or misplaced when not in service.
To this end, my invention consists in the construction and combination of parts form- "ing an oil can and funnel, hereinafter more fully described, and particularly stated in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which: I a
Figure 1 represents an oil can and funnel according to my invention, with the funnel in position for filling the can. Fig. 2 shows the same can with the funnel stowed away when not in service. Fig. 3 shows the can and funnel in the act of filling a lamp.
Numeral 4: represents a can of any usual or preferred form, and having a common cap 5 to cover its opening when not in service. I shape 'a funnel 6 to fit neatly over the can when closed, as shown in Fig. 2. On one side of the funnel I secure a loop 7, and
funnel to slide on the bail as required to bring it to its different positions of service and storage. The cap 5 is not a part of this invention and any suitable closure may be used in its stead. By means. of the loop 7 and the bail 8 the funnel is reversibly hung to the can, permitting it to serve in filling the can or in filling another receptacle from the can.
I claim:
1. The combination with a can, of a funnel having a loop on one side; a bail pivotally connected with the can and engaging the said loop, and a brace secured to the can as a support to the funnel in service.
2. The combination with a can, of a funnel, a bail pivotally attached to the can, and the funnel having a loop on one side engaging the bail, whereby the funnel may be used in filling the can, or in filling a receptacle from the can, or be placed as a cap upon the can.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES H. ANDERSON, W. H. BOVEE.
