Description

' (No Model.)
0. W. BEEHLER. NOZZLE FDR OIL CANS.
Patented Mar. 15
CHARLES BEEHLER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
NOZZLE FOR OIL-CANS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 470,776,
dated March 15, 1892.
Application filed March 12,1891. Serial No. 384,782. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. BEEHLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nozzles forOil-Oans, &c. and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Thisinvention relates to the pouring-spouts or nozzles of oil-cans and like utensils, the object of the present invention being to provide a simple, cheap, and durable pouringspout or nozzle possessing the features of a ready and effective means for sealing or closing of the oil-passage when not in use and a perfect and efficient means for avoiding a spilling of the contents of the can in filling lamps and like uses. I attain such objects by the construction and arrangement of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which-' Figure 1 is a side ellvation illustrating my improved nozzle or pouring-spout applied to an ordinary household oil-can, the nozzle or spout being shown in position ready for use; Fig. 2, a detail perspective view of the same in a closed or sealed condition, and Fig. 3 a
similar View of a modified construction of the same.
Similar numerals of parts 1n the different reference indicate like views.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the I ordinary curved nozzle of the oil-can, at the outer end of which is arranged a section of flexlble tube 2, and which in use is adapted to enter the filling-orifice of a lamp or other article to avoid any liability to accidental spilling in the pouring operation.
The flexible tube 2 is preferably secured to the nozzlel by means of the clip-hanger 3, which is preferably of a jointed construction, the loop portion 4. being pivotally connected to the clip portion 3, as shown, so as to be capable of movement in introducing the end of the flexible tube 2 into the loop, when it is desired to seal the oil-passage, by the formation of a short bend or crease in said tube.
The loop at may be of a U form, as shown in Fig. 2, or of a hook form, as shown in Fig. 3, without departing from the spirit of my invention, and in like manner theattachment of the flexible tube to the can or other Vessel may be modified to suit the particular circumstance of its use and as will suggest itself to the judgment of the constructor.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a pouring-spout or nozzle for oil-cans, &c., a flexible tube, in combination with a hanger-loop consisting of a clip portion attaching the end of the flexible tube to the end of the can-nozzle and a loop portion pivoted to the clip portion and adapted to receive an end of the tube in a creased condition, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES WV. BEEHLER; Witnesses:
W. B. SWAN, L. P. YOUNG.
