Description

H. P. ELIAS.
Dress-Shirt. No. 212,911
Pgtentd Mar. 4, I879 N. PETERS, PHOTO-UTHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D G.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY F. ELIAS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRESS-SHIRTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 212,911, dated March 4, 1879; application filed January 16, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY F. ELIAS, of the city county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Dress-Shirts, of which the following is a specification y The object of this invention is to supply a receptacle in the linen dress-shirt forthe handkerchief, purse, and other articles, and at the same time make that part of the shirtbody between the side seams and bosom, and from the yoke to the waist-band, two-ply, and thus ogtain greater durability for this part of the s irt.
In the accompanying drawing a front view of the shirt is given with parts in section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawing, A is the shirtbosom. B is the yoke. G are the side seams, and D is the waistband.
The part a (shown under the sectional part) is the body of the shirt proper, Over this is placed a piece, E, extending from the yoke to the waistband, and from the side seam to the bosom, being sewed at all the seams, and also tacked down between the arm-holes and the bosom, as shown at I).
Where the part E joins the bosom it is left for a short distance unsewed, as at c, and the edge at this point is faced like a pocket-flap, and, if deemed necessary, is provided with but ton-holes to fasten it down.
Between the tacking I) and the seams below it a receptacle or pocket, d, is thus formed between the part E and the body of the shirt, to which entrance is given through the opening 0. This receptacle or pocket can be used for the handkerchief, purse, jewelry, or any other small article, and it will be found very useful for a variety of purposes.
In addition to this, part or piece E, placed over the shirt-body, increases its durability, as the shirt is very apt to give way at the junction of the bosom before any other part of the body is worn out.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As an improvement in dress-shirts, the, pocket (I, made in the shirt-body on either side of the bosom, and with an opening, 0,. next to the bosom, when constructed and arranged to operate substantially as described.
2. The part or piece E, placed over the shirtbody between the seams G, bosom A, yoke B, and waistband D to give greater durability to the shirt and form a pocket, (I, substantially as described.
HENRY F. ELIAS.
