Description
M. SIMON. COMBINED POCKET-BOOK AND-BELT.
Patented. mmn'za, 187s;
llrrrrrm STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MEYER SIMON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y. A
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBlNED SOCKET-BOOKS AND BELTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,514, dated March 28, 1876 application filed February 16, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, MEYER SIMON, of the city, county, and State of New York, have in-' vented a new and useful Improvement in Oombined Pocket-Booksand Belts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification.
This invention relates to a belt designed to be worn around the body or person, and which has a pocket-book, portemonnaie, or wallet combined with it.
The invention consists in a belt designed to be worn about or around the person outside of the clothes, and composed, in part, of a pocketbook or wallet, which is made to form a longitudinal section of the belt itself or connecting-link between or within the main portion or body of the belt, thus proportionally reducing the length of such portion. Said interposed pocketbook or wallet I propose to give adouble use, too, by making it also the one part of a buckle or fastening, by which the ends of the belt are united, thus combining a belt, pocket-book or porte-monnaie, and buckle or belt-fastening, all in one. Such combined pocket-book and belt will be found very convenient for ladies and others, as the pocket-book, while readily accessible to the wearer from the outside of the person, and with the one hand, is attached to the person, and less liable to be lost or stolen than when carried loosely in the pocket or when held in the hand.
Figure 1 represents a front view of a portion of the main body of the belt, with combined porte-Inonnaie and buckle attached. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same, with the portemonnaie in section.
A is the main portion or body of the belt, which may be made of leather or any other suitable material. B is the porte-monnaie, which, so far as its pockets and clasps are concerned, may be of an ordinary or any other desired construction, and may be made to open and shut in various ways. This porte-monnaie or wallet is an interposed longitudinal section of the belt, thus proportionally reducing or economizing the remainder of-the belt. It may either be permanently or detachably connected with one or both ends of the portion A, which it serves to unite, but, in order to dispense with a separate buckle attachment, I make the pocket-book itself the one part of the buckle or belt-fastening, as, for instance, by providing it withattached eye-plates b b at its back on opposite ends, and providing the adjacent ends of the portion A of the belt with hook-plates dd, one of which may be permanently attached to the eye-plate b with which it engages, while the other hook-plate may be fitted to detachably connect with or nnhook from the other eye-plate. If desired, the hookplates might be fast to the pocket-book, and the eye-plates attached to the ends of the portion A of the bel t, or other modes of fastening, utilizing the pocket-book for the purpose, may be adopted.
I claim- I 1. A combined pocket-book and belt, in which the pocket-book is made to form an interposed longitudinal section of the belt itself, substantially as specified.
2. A combined pocket-book and belt, in which the pocket-book has a part of the buckle or fastening attached to it, by which the ends of the belt are united to the pocketbook, essentially as described.
