Description

J.'C. BRE HL.
' GARMENT POCKET. APPLICATION FILE!) !AN- 14, I916- Patenfed ul 18, 1916 glmvmitoz in a construction of a. pocket wherein the JOSEPH GaIBREI-IL. OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
GARMENT-POCKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 18, 191s.
Application filed January 14, 1916. Serial No. 72,163.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Josnrn G. Bnnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Pockets, of which the followingis a specification.
My invention relates to garment pockets and is more particularly directed to apocket construction used in connection with gentlemen's vests,'although the invention is not itself limited particularly to vests, inasmuch as it might be applied to exterior wearing apparel in general.
The main object of my invention resides contents of the same may be viewed from the outside with great facility, the invention being particularly directed to watch pockets to enable the wearer to ascertain the time without necessarily removing the watch from its pocketed position. In this con nection, my invention consists in the provision of a pocket structure and a garment structure, both being provided with concentrio openings, which openings are protected or covered by a transparent shield. A further object of my invention resides in the provision of a locking clasp structure, whereby the watch may be positively held in its pocketed position, although the clasp structure is so constructed that the watch is also detachably held in its position within the pocket.
Still a further object of my invention resides in the provision of a flap of such construction that it may be hidden within the interior of the pocket when its use is not desired particularly and which may also be moved to exterior position to cover the opening and transparent shield to hide this construction from view.
The preferred embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying sheet of drawings, in which similar characters of reference designate'corresponding parts, and in which: 7
Figure 1 is a face view of my pocket construction showing a watch in position and showing the flap hidden within the interior of the pocket, Fig. 2 is a similar view, but showing the flap in its exterior position, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section taken through the structure as shown in Fig. 2.
.In these several views, the garment body is designated by the reference numeral 1 and this garment body, is provided with a pocket 2. This pocket is of the conventional design and is provided with an opening 3, which opening registers with a similar opening 4 in the garment body itself. This open- .ing is covered through the medium of a transparent shield 5 secured to the interior of the pocket 2 by means of the stitching shown at 6. This shield is preferably transparent in order to permit the wearer and perhaps others, to view the contents of the pocket itself which, in the present instance, is a watch shown at 7 for which my pocket is particularly designed. In order to hold this watch in its proper position before the opening and to further hold the watch within the pocket with added security, I have provided this pocket-with a clasp flap shown at 8, its inner end being rigidly se cured to the interior of the pocket, while its other end may be detachably secured in the locked position as shown in Fig. 3 by means of the well known type of glove fastener 9. Thus, therwatch may be suspended after the manner shown in Fig. 3 by passing the clasp band through the ring 10 and then securing itby means of the glove fastener.
In order to hide the pocket construction from view at such times, for instance, when -the wearer is without a watch, I have provided the garment with a flap 11 secured at its upper end 12 to the outside of tl garment body and provided at its lower end with a glove fastener socket 13, which socket is adapted to coiiperate with the ordinary .ball structure secured in proper position to the garment body, as is shown at 14. Thus, the flap may be hidden from view by locating it within the interior of the pocket, as is shown in Fig. 1, or it maybe removed from this hidden position and made to cover the openings and shield, and secured in this position by means ofthe glove fastener carried by its lower end, as is shown:
in Fig, 2.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. it will be apparent that I have proruled a type of pocket which is particularly.
adapted for securing a watch in its proper position and which, at the same time, gives the convenience to the wearer of obviating the necessity of removing such Watch r'rom within the pocket in order to ascertain the timef hat- I claim, is:
1. A clothes pocket construction comprising a pocket body portion, a garment body, both said pocket and garment bodies having concentric openings, a transparent cover for said openings, and means for holding a watch'in position in back of said cover.
2. A clothes pocket construction comprising a pocket body port-ion, a garment body, both said pocket and garment bodies having concentric openings, a transparent cover for said openings, means for holding a Watch in position in back of said cover, and a flap arranged to be hidden Within the pocket or to lie on the outside of said garment body to cover said openings.
3. A clothes pocket construction compris ing a pocket body portion, a garment body, both said pocket and garment bodies having concentric openings, a, transparent cover for said openings, a clasp band secured at one end to the interior of said pocket, means on the other end of said band for detachably securing it to the inside of the pocket to form a loop, aflap arranged to be hidden within the pocket or to lie on the outside of said garment body to cover said openings, and means for detachably securing the free end of said flap in its outside position.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
