B. WILLIAMS & O. 0. MORGAN. Plow.
No. 206,654. Patented July 30, I878.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BASCOM WILLIAMS AND CRAWFORD C. MORGAN, OF FLOWERY BRANCH, GA.
IM PROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,654, dated July 30, 187R application filed May 29, 1878.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, BASOOM WILLIAM$ and CRAWFORD G. MORGAN, of Flowery Branch, in the county of Hall, and in the State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the construction of a cultivator-frame with braces and feet attached for connecting the blades to same, as will be hereinafter set forth.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of our invention with the plowblade and T-bolt shown separately. Fig. 2 is a plan view, showing the frame folded. Fig. 3 is a section showing the clamp connecting the braces to the center beam. Fig. 4 is a side view of the plow-foot with revolving plate.
A represents a center beam, which has upon each side of and at a suitable distance from it two beams, B B. The side beams are connected to each other and to the center beam by means of the cross-bars O O at each end. Bolts .12 00 pass through the cross-bars and through the beams for connecting them together. The cross-bars may lie at right an gles to the center beam, as is represented; butthey may lie in an angular position, in which case the side beams will be brought closer to the center one.
To station and steady the side beams, the braces F F are used, being pivoted at one end to the forward end of one of the side beams and adjustably connected at their other to the center beam A by an angular sliding clamp, G, placed over the beam and connected by the bolt i passing through the ends of the clamp and forward ends of the braces and secured by a nut, f.
D represents the foot, to which the plow or plow-blade is attached. This foot consists of a single piece of bar metal bent double and in the shape represented in the figure. The ends of the bar'are bent so that they straddle the beam, and bolts n a pass through the ends beneath the beam to keep them in place. By this construction the foot may be moved to any desired position on the beam and there confined by the set-screw c. The lower end of this foot sets at a suitable angle, so that the plow-blade may be placed and secured upon 1t.
1 represents a blade. This blade has an opening through it, and through this opening a T-shaped bolt, H, passes. The arms of the bolt catch upon and hug the two sides of foot D, and not only keep them from spreading, but securely fasten the blade in its place.
The bolt H, it will be seen, is wedge-shaped a portion of its way, so that it keeps the two parts of the foot from springing together, as the arms keep them from springing apart.
On the side of each foot D near its end is an eceentrieally-pivoted plate, y, which forms three di fi'erent widths under the plow to change the position of the plow to throw the dirt either way.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The foot 1), made of bar-iron, with its ends bent to straddle the beam, as seen at a a, and having bolts n n for holding them in position, and provided with a set-screw, c, for securing and allowing of their adjustment on the beam, substantially as and for the pun poses set forth.
2. The revolving eccentrieally-pivoted plate 3 in combination with a plow-foot and shoe, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 8th day of May, 1878.
