(No Model.)
A. M. MILLER. SWEEP PLOW.
No. 475,461. Patented May 24, 1892.
v lg egiir .3. MMi/LZeJ;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIC AMANUEL M. MILLER, OF FAIRFIELD, TEXAS.
SWEEP-PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 475,461, dated May 24, 1892.
Application filed September 22, 1891. Serial No. 406,509. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AMANUEL M. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fairfield, in the county of Freestone and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Sweep- Plow, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in sweep-plows; and the objects in view are to provide a sweep-plow especially adapted for the cultivation of cotton and to so construct the same that the blades or wings thereof may be adjusted for the purpose of plowing between rows of various widths.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear in the following description, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of a sweep constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation. Fig. 3 is a detail in perspective of the plow point or shear.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the figures of the drawings.
The sweep is curved in cross-section until substantially U-shaped, and therefore comprises the central shovel-seat portion 1 and the opposite side extensions 2. The central shovel-seat portion 1 is provided with an oblong slot 3 for the reception of a pair of bolts, through the medium of which the sweep may be adjusted upon the foot of plow. The upper edges of the side extensions are provided with curved slots 4, and concentric with the same the lower ends of said extensions are perforated, as at 5.
6 designates a wing, of which there are a pair, one for each of the extensions 2. These wings are curved transversely or concave upon their outer faces and are adj ustably connected to the extensions by pairs of bolts '7. By loosening the lower bolt of the pair and the upper bolt thereof the latter may move through the slot 4 any desired distance, and a retightening of the bolts will lock the wing in position.
It will be seen that the sweep is capable of being used for cultivating between rows of varying widths, and also I am enabled to replace the wings when worn by new ones. It will be understood,of course, that by raising the wings. the sweep is made narrower and by lowering the same wider.
Having described my invention, what I claim is- The combination, with the sweep curved in cross-section to form the central shovel-receiving seat, which is slotted opposite the rearwardly-disposed triangular sides or flanges, which latter are perforated near their lower ends and provided at their upper ends with curved slots, with which the perforations are concentric, of a pair of opposite rearwardlydisposed diverging wings and pivoting-bolts passed through the perforations of the wings and flanges and adjusting-bolts passed through the slots of the wings and flanges, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
AMANUEL M. MILLER.
