J. G. RUNDLETT.
Specie-Purse.
Patented March 12, 1878.
INVENTQR z M ATTORNEYS.
NESSES' my,
a fy a/V NFEIERS. PfIDTO-UTHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. 0 c1 UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
JAMES C. RUNDLETT, OF PORTLAND, MAINE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPEClE -PURSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- 201,20l, dated March 12, 1878; application filed February 7, 1878.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES C. RUNDLETT, of Portland, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented a new and Improved Specie-Purse, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved specie-purse. Fig. 2 is a front elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts. I
The object of my invention is to provide a compact and convenient receptacle for specie,
which may be easily opened to display the specie, and may be readily and securely closed, so as to prevent the escape of coin.
' Referring to the drawing, A is the back piece of the purse, which, in the present case, is oblong, with one end a little wider than the other. To the smaller end of the back piece a front piece is stitched, forming a pocket, B, for the reception of coin. A front piece is stitched to the larger end of the back piece, forming a shallow'pocket, O, for receiving the opposite end of the purse when the purse is folded together.
A strip of the material of which the front of the larger pocket is made extends alongeach edge of the back piece, forming lips or flaps a, which prevent the coin from escaping when the purse is opened, and the coin is allowed to drop out of the pocket B into the open space between the pockets B O. The pocket Bis provided with a narrow flap, 1), which stiffens the front piece, and facilitates the return of thecoin to the pocket. When the pocket B is tucked into the pocket 0 the coin is pre vented from escaping.
The purseis preferably made of leather, and has no metallic parts. It is soft and flexible, and easily carried in the pocket.
I do not limit or confine myself to any particular mode of manufacture, nor to any special material or form, as these may be varied without departing from my invention.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A specie-purse of flexible material, having a deep pocket for containing coin, and a shallow pocket for receiving the deep pocket when the purse is folded, and having a space between the two pockets for exhibiting coin, substantially as herein shown and described.
JAMES C. RUNDLETT.
