IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED WRENCH AND SAW-SET.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,489, dated January 22, 1878; application filed July 26, 1877.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J AGOB BAOKER, of Rose Hill, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Wrench and Saw- Set; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof,

which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a side view, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.

My invention relates to the combination of a Wrench with a saw-setting device attached to the sliding jaw thereof.

The construction and operation of my invention are as I shall now proceed more fully to describe.

In the drawings, A is the stock of a wrench, having handle B and stationary jaw O, of the usual construction. D is the movable jaw, which slides upon stock A. Jaw D hasa separate stock, d, fitting flat upon stock A, and provided at its lower end with a loop, 0, fitting around stock A, thus serving as a guide for jaw D.

Stock at has a longitudinal screw-threaded perforation, in which works a screw-bolt, a, pivoted in a bracket, 0, secured to stock A just above the handle.

Screw-bolt a may be operated by a solid nut, f, attached to it above bracket 6, thus sliding jaw D and its attachments up or down stock A, according to the direction in which it is rotated.

The upper face of j aw D and the underface of jaw C have each a shallow triangular recess, 0 d, facing each other, to accommodate the sawteeth, thus insuring uniformity in the performance of the operation of saw-setting.

.13 is a bracket, extending laterally from the jaw D and its stock d, and provided at the end with a plate, g, having a screwthreaded perforation, in which a thumb-screw, h, is inserted. The face of plate gshould be ona lower level than that of jaw D.

b b are thumb-screws, arranged in jaw and loop 0 to press against stock A, for the purpose of securing the sliding jaw and its attachments rigidly in position when used as a saw-set.

From the foregoing description, and by ref erence to the drawing hereto annexed, the 0peiatipn of my invention will be readily unders 00 The pitch to which the saw-teeth are to be bent being first regulated by the set-screw h, the teeth of the saw are inserted into the recess formed by the shallow triangular recesses d c of the jaws D O, the former of which has been previously adjusted by screw-bolt a, and secured rigidly in position by thumb-screws b b. The teeth may then be easily and evenly set.

I am aware of the patent to S. Smith, October 4, 1859, in view of which I do not broadly claim the implement herein described; but

Having thus described my invention, I claim. and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The improved combined wrench and sawset herein described, consisting of the stock A, having solid jaw O and handle B, and adjustable sliding jaw D, having bracket F, provided with plate 9 and thumb-screw h, and setscrews b b, the jaws O D being provided with recesses c 01, facing each other, as shown, all combined, arranged, and operating substantially in. the manner and for the purpose herein shown and specified.
