-IMPROVEMENT IN SAW-SETTING DEVICES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,522, dated August l0, 1875; application filed May 22, 1875.
To all whom -it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS A. GREELY, of Elmira, Fulton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Saw-Gages, of which the following is a specification The object of this invention is to furnish a gage for setting cross-cut saws that shall be cheaper and more convenient to use than the gages now in use 5 and it consists of a block of iron, steel, 0r other metal, having a face, a fulcrum, and a set-screw, constructed as hereinafter described.
Figure l represents a side view of the gage, and Fig. 2 is a face view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is a block of steel or other metal, of convenient size, on the working .side F of which '1s a projecting face, B, a fulcrum, C, and the set-screw D, Which latter passes through the gage and is turned or graduated from the back side E. The screw may beturned so as to project more or less, as may be desired, according to the degree of set of the teeth.
The fulcrum G is a short projecting Wedge extending across the full face width of the gage.
The saw is, preferably, set when it is in the filing-clamp, and the gage is held against the saw with the hand in such a manner that the set-screw rests or bears against the saw, and the fulcrum against the base of the tooth. The tooth is then bent over-the fulcrum until the point touches the face B, which is accomplished by means of a hammer and anvil or screw-Wrench, producing thus, by a very simple device, the uniform setting of all the sawteeth.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The gage for setting saws, herein described, comprising the block A, havinga projecting face, B, fulcrum G, and setscrew D, as and for the purpose set forth.
LEWIS A; GREELY.
