Description
BUELL. bavic e s for Swaging Saw-Teeth. No. 146,647;
Patented lam 20. 1874.-
WiTNEE 51:5
Au. moral/mammal: mmmmkm mm) r UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ECKFORD BUELL, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN DEVICES FOR SWAGING SAW-TEETHL Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,647, dated January 20, 1874; application filed January 3, 1874.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ECKFORD BUELL, of Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dewices' for Dressing Saw- Teeth; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the -invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
The nature of myinvention relates to an improvement in devices for dressing saw-teeth; and it consists in ametal frame or casting, having a slot cut through its under side, so that the frame will rest upon the top of the tooth, allowing its cutting-point to project through an opening on one side. Dovetailed into the frame, at the point where the tooth projects through, is a steel bar of suitable shape, which forms the anvil upon which the tooth is drawn out. Projectin g down through the top of the frame into the slot is a setscrew, which regulates the pitch of the teeth on the anvil.
The accompanying drawings represent my invention.
(t represents an iron frame or castii'ig, preferably of the shape here shown, having the extension 1) upon its top, and which is provided with a handle, 0, so that it can be readily carried about, or moved and adjusted at will. lnt through the under side of this casting, as shpwn, is the slot 61, which allows the casting to be passed over the top of one of the teeth, and which is supported in position by the extension b, which forms a bridge across the top of the tooth. The slot or groove (Z is out entirely through the extension, forming an opening of suitable length, through which the point of the tooth of the saw projects over the anvil c. This anvil consists of asteel bar dovetailed into the top of the casting, andwhich has its upper side so shaped as to presentarounding surface, 2, and a flat inclined surface, 3, upon which the point of the tooth rests.
By this form of anvil the under side of the slightly concaved.
Having thus described my invention, I claimp 1. The casting a, having a groove orslot cut through its under side, and provided with the extension I), so as to support it upon the top of the tooth, substantially as set forth.
2. The anvil 0, having the flat inclined surface- 3 and the rounding surface 2, substantially as specified.
3. The frame a, having the extensioi'i b, in combination with the set-screw 5 and anvil a,
substantially as described.
In testimony that I clann the tbregoingpl have hereunto set my hand this 25th (la of December, 1873.
EGKFORD BUELL.
'itnesses:
I). W. J ONES, J. G. AULD.
