To LZZ whom t may concern,.-
Be it known that l, GEORGE C. FEReUsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Odell, in the count-y of G-age and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Tool for Dressing Saw-Teeth, of which the following is a specification.
This in ventionrelates to tools for dressing saw-teeth; and the object of the same is to produce a le having an improved handle, whereby the Whole may be used in the manner hereinafter set forth.
To this en d the invention consists in the specilic details ot' construction herein described and claimed, and as illustrated on the sheet of drawings, wherein* Figure l is an elevation of the back of this improved device. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the front thereof. Fig. 3 is a side elevation. Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4 4 of Fig. l.
Referringto the said drawings, the letter I-I designates the handle, and C is a cross-piece set therein at about a right angle to the length of the handle. In the lower end of the latter and in the outer ends of the crosspiece are thumb-screws T, as shown. The upper end of the handle has a deep notch N, the arms at the sides of this notch being drawn together by a screw or bolt B, as seen in Fig. 3. In the front face of the handle is a recess R, which extends to both sides of the notch, and in this recess is removably mounted a file or other abrading or grinding tool F, and this file is clamped in place in the recess by tightening the bolt B. The back of the le may rest ilat in the bottom of the recess, although I prefer to provide screws S, which pass through the arms-at the sides of the notch Nin the upper end of the handle II and whose points bear upon the tile, so that by adjusting these screws the distance that the front face of the file will Serial No. 401,386. (No model) project from the front face of the handle and its cross-piece may be adj usted as desired.
In operation, a le or other tool having been secured to the handle, any flat face may be filed in a manner which will be obvious; but this improved tool is especially useful for liling or grinding the teeth of large saws after said teeth have been swaged. By adjusting the various screws the proj ect-ing points of the teeth may be filed uniformlyand to any gage. Vhen so used, the handle is held in the hand of the operator and the points of the thumbscrews T slide on the face of the saw, the iile operating on theteeth, as seen in dotted lines in ig. 3.
What is claimed as new is- The herein-described tool for dressing sawteeth, the same comprising a handle proper having a deep longitudinal notch in one end and a recess at said eXtreme upper end in one face across the notch and in the arms at the sides thereof, the file, a boit passing transversely through the arms at the sides of the notch and directly back of said recess to removabl5T clamp the le in said recess, adj usting-screws passing through each arm into the back; or rear wall of said recess at right angles to said bolt above and below the same and contacting with the back of the le to adjust the same, a cross-piece on the handle between its ends, and gage-screws through the ends of the cross-piece and the end of the handle remote from its notch, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto alxed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
