Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,438, dated October 23, 1877 application filed September 1, 1877.
To all whom #may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMEON N. BRAKE, of New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Bale-Ties; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specication, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a perspective view of my bale-tie, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view thereof.
The nature of my invention relates to certain improvements upon the class' of bale-ties which have H-shaped buttons to form the fastenings, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention.
A represents the band of iron to be passed around the bale. In one end of this band or hoop is made a slot, a., and through the same A is passed a button,'B, made in H form. Af-
ter this button B has been passed through the slot a, a portion of said slot is closed by means of a washer or plate, C, riveted or otherwise fastened to -the band or hoop A. This plate or washer C confines the button in the slot ofthe hoop A, so that it cannot become detached, while it is perfectly free to turn in either direction, as desired. In the other end of the band or hoop A is a series of slots, b b, for inserting and locking the button.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a bale-tie, the combination of the button B slot a, and washer or plate O, riveted to the band, and coveringl a portion of said slot, for the purpose set forth.
