IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.'

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,015, dated February 3, 1674; application filed September 17, 1873.

To all whom it may concern: y

Be it known that I, OSCAR R. MCC-LEAN, of New Orleans, parish of Orleans, Louisiana, have invented a Bale-Tie, of which the following is a specication:

My invention consists of a novel and useful improvement in bale-tie fastening.

To enable those skilled in the artsto make nseniy invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation, reference being had to the accompanying' drawing.

The object of my invention is to provide a bale-tie attached to one end of a band by rivets in such a manner as to firmly secure a bale without any aid from the expansive force of -the material baled. 4

Figure 1 represents the end of the band prepared at factory forming the tie. Fig. 2 represents the tie as on a finished bale and both ends of band. Fig. 3 is a sectional view.

Like letters in each view refer to like parts.

Loops of metal of the necessary thickness, as C and C, are inade, and thus riveted to end of band: The band is bent into a hook, extending up to upper part of upper loop, holes for rivets punched through both thicknesses of band; one for the lower loop, two or more for the upper loop; holes to be punched through the back of both loops to correspond to holes in band; the loops placed in their respective positions, and riveted securely to the two thicknesses of band, forming a space between the bands, the front B B, and back of the tie; the loopsvbent over the front, as shown, to form a space to receive the other end of band. The loops may be longer, and meet in front.

The tie complete to be used thus: The other end of band passed in space between B B, and front of lower loop passed on up into space between B B, and front of upper loop drawn up tight, then bent to the front over the front of upper loop, thev end of band passed down into lower loop, securing and keeping` it from springing off; all as Fig. 2.

I do claim- Theloops secured to the bands, and the mode of bending and securing the said band to the loops, as described, for the purpose set forth.
