Description

LS. & C. R. HERRON.
Patented March` 14, M76.
VIITNESSES NPETERS, PMOTO-LIYNOGRPHER. WASHING 0N D C STATES JAMES S. HERRON, OF
PATENT QEEICE,
IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.
Specification forming'part of Letters Patent No. 174,730,.dated March 14, 1876; application iled February 21, 1876.
To all whom 'it may concern: l
Beit known that we, JAMES S. HE-RRON, of Pensacola, in the county of Escambia and State of Florida, and CHARLES R. HERRON, of Savannah, in the county of Chatham and State of Georgia, have invented a new and Improved Band-Tie, of which the following is a specification ln the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a top View, showing the band ends in detached position. Figs. 2 and Sare top views of the band ends, showing them, respectively, in the positions to betied and as tied.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Our invention has for its object a manner of fastening bands of Y metal, Wood, or any other material for binding anything t0 which the same can be applied, without buckles, rivets, 85e. 5 and itconsists ot'a band end with a closed L-shaped slot, in connection with the opposite band end, having notches at alternate sides, that lock into the slotted end.
In the drawing, A represents one end of a band or hoop for baling or other purposes, and -B the opposite end of the same. Into the band end A is cut, a short distance from the outer end, a closed L-shaped slot, a, which is placed with the head ofthe L toward the end ofthe band, the base ofthe L being equidistantfrom the edges ot' the band. The opposite band lend B is cut also, at a short distance from its outer end, with recesses or notches b at alternate sides, every two alternate notches having a distance between their outer edges equal to the length of the L-shaped slot a. When the two band ends are brought together, and the notched end inserted into the L-shaped slot, as shown in Fig. 2, and then closed, asin Fig. 3, the shoulders of the notches will rest on those of the slot, and form a complete support, tie, and lock. For the purpose of tightening said y bands a number of alternating notches may be made in the band end B, so as to be drawn through the L-shaped slot un- .til binding tightly on the bale, or other article to be tied, forming thus a reliable, simple, andl cheap band or hoop tie for cotton, hay, or any other purpose to which the same can be applied.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 'Patent- As an improvement in band-ties, the combination of a band end,'having closed L-shaped slot, with the opposite band end, being pro vided with recesses or notches at alternate sides, the distance of two alternating notches being equal to the length ofthe L-shaped slot, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
