Description

T. S. DRAKE.
BALE TIE.
APPLIOATIOR nun APR. 10. me.
902,864. Patented Nov. 3, 1908.
Swuewtoz 2M aaoco fir #7 7 yW m I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS S. DRAKE, OF ()U'LLMAN, ALABAMA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-FOURTH. TO SUTTON L. FULLER AND ONE-FOURTH TO ASA B. FULLER, BOTH OF (FULLMAN, ALABAMA.
BALE-TIE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS S. DRAKE, a citizen of the United States, residin at R. F. D. 9, Culhnan, in the county of (liillman and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bale-Ties, of which the following is a specification.
l\-ly invention relates to improvements in bale ties, in which by use of a new form and construction I secure a tie that can be used, and removed, with equal facility, without injury to the hoops or bale bands, thus permitting them to be used indefinitely. This ob ject is attained by the tie shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l. is a top view of the tie, Fig. 2. is a side view of the tie, Fig. 3. is an end view of the tie, Fig. 4. is a view of the tie being placed in position, Fig. 5. is a view of the tie in position when secured.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The tie consists of a rectangular plate of metal A. with two slots a and a one in each end of the plate, the said slots being made with a curved entrance which in the center of the tie is made straight of the width of the band iron of which the hoop or band is made, the said slots entering on opposite sides of the tie: with two ears Z) and I) raised, one on either side of the center of the tie, the said ears the Width of the hoop or band apart, and slightly curved inward at the top.
The band iron of the required width is made in such length as desired to neatly in- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 10, 1908.
Patented Nov. 3, 1908.
Serial No. 426,296.
close a bale of the size desired with the ends looped to permit of free passage over the ends of the tie.
With the bale in the press, and the bands placed around the bale each loop of the band is placed in position to receive one of the ends of the tie, and with the ends of the tie inserted in position, a turn of the tie to the right by the use of a bladed wrench that fits between the ears places the tie in position where it secures the band firmly.
A turn of the tie to the left with the wrench at once releases the band without damage to the bands, and the ties and bands can be repeatedly used for baling purposes.
The bands can be folded and inserted between the ears of the tie and made up in compact form for shipment and transportation.
hat I claim as my invention, and de sire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A rectangular plate of metal A. with two slots, a and a one in either end curved at the entrance but straight in the center of the tie, with two ears 6 and I) raised, one on either side of the center of the tie, and slightly curved inward at the top all as indicated in the drawings, as and for the purposes as set forth.
Tn testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOMAS S. DRAKE.
Witnesses:
